Urban chic and modern simplicity meets traditional Mexican culture.
I’ve been sewing, crocheting, and beading for about six years. The inspiration for my designs comes from the thriving art and culture of the locales that have shaped who I am: a half-Mexican girl from Southwestern Texas, currently dwelling in New York City.
My pieces reflect my love of vibrant colors and varying textures. I prefer modern and simple looks, but with a nod to traditional Mexican culture. I’m also influenced
by the diversity in fashions in New York, and often incorporate images I see on the streets of the city into my designs.
“La Pistolera” translates from Spanish as “female gun slinger.” The contrasting images of toughness and femininity serve as a metaphor for the woman I am today—a girl from a smallborder town who didn’t just survive the unlikely move to New York, but who flourished here, both as an individual andas an artist.
