La Populär was funded in 2008 by guitarist, composer and vocalist, Ivan Landinez (Colombian native). The band was born out of the desire to portrait and promote the richness of Latin American music, and the multiple stories accumulated through the many trips of Ivan around South America. The band members are Iván Landínez (Colombia), Jose Miguel Gonzales (Chile), Martin Favaro (Uruguay), Pedro Martinez (Mexico) and Alexandra Nilsson (Sweden). The band is composed out of a mixture of talented musicians, who’s experiences, tales and imagination, have contributed to the unique sound of La Populär, a sound that emotes energy, feelings, poetry and even humor. The kind of sounds and rhythms that make people dance, the sound from the “streets”. La Populär has managed to gather a multicultural fanbase of all ages and from all parts of the world, which continues to grow with each performance and each new song. Carin Kjellman (Swedish radio program FELICIA) labeled La Populär “La banda salvaje”. La Populär records their first album in the year 2008, named “La Populär”. This album put them in the international spotlight of Stockolm’s music scene. The band has played at venues such as Mosebacke, Södra Teatern, Underbara Bar, Stampen, Musikvalvet, and The University of Stockholm and Nalen where they shared stage with Inti-Illimani, (Chile).
