Well to all of my friends that have not drove past the now desolte, empty Lark bar lately, you should know that they started to tear down buildings on the bridge. They have not yet torn The Lark down, but I am sure that they will be doing it sometime in the near future. So, if you want a piece of the past to take with you into the future, I'd go get it soon.
Hi all my friends and family. An old friend from chicago wrote me this morning. He wrote a poem. I wanted to share it with you all. here it goes.
We gravitated to a place
where people were free
to be themselves
where they rejoice
in our accomplishments
and console you in defeat
while we were there
we felt liberated,
A l I V E
and for just those moments
we felt as if we belonged
I love you all so much. Have a great weekend.
As of Friday morning August 25th. The Lark is now closed. Lenny made settlement at 8 am this morning. It saddens my heart to see it go. It has been a part of me for more than half my life. I sit and write with tears in my eyes. The end of a great era and a piece of Gay history has past. I can only hope for new beginnings now. We have lost one of the Crown Jewels in the gay community. One thing that remains is our family. We can never loose that. We will have have a space here to live laugh and love. I wish all of you my family the best of health and love always. Please lets keep this bond strong and alive. I could never live without you all. May god bless you all and keep you safe. Please feel free to say hello anytime. Love Paul (aka) Mama
Just want you all to know that the Lark is still open and will be until we get any more information from PennDOT. I will post any info I get immediately. Hope to see you all there!
make sure that eveyone puts their memeories into "The Lark Bar Memories" book when you stop in the bar! See you all tonight for a bit before the city! Kisses!
Yeah.....so last night was crazy! There had to have been at least 700 people throughout the bar the whole night....and 43 cases of beer later, and god knows how much booze, everyone got thrown out of the bar by the police and the fire marshall for being way over the limit of heads! There was food, karoke, and special drag performances! Highlights of the night were doing shots at the bar with my Mom, performing the Diva Opera from the 5th element, and of course at the end of the night the presentation of the gay pride Lark Flag to the S-Flag Club of Montgomery County College, and the crowning of Miss Paula Norman as Miss Lark Emertis, for her 32 years of performing and helping with the show directing forever! It was well deserved. Needless to say, if you did not see the aftermath, the parking lot out back and the street out front were covered with plastic cups and beer bottles! The cleaning crew did a great job! (Props to Mike and Dougie for that) On a much funnier note...since it was so packed and a 20 min wait at times to get a drink...A group of lesbians and a few drag queens were spotted at the straight bar across the street, and 5 mins later, back with a six pack in hand! Gotta love Bridgeport! Thanks to my friends on 2nd Street for a little after party, and to Markie for another one after that! I sure will miss that bar when it goes, but I am sure that I will enjoy the company of many of you reading this until it's final day. Now off to wash the rest of this mascara off and time for another cocktail.
