Later, her alias became Rokafella because she was 'rocking the fellas' who challenged her on the dance floor. She became a well known and highly respected b-girl (female break dancer) pioneer who traveled nationally and internationally to teach and mentor aspiring dancers the art and history of Hip-Hop dance. Adding to her street credibility, she developed many talents besides her dynamic moves on stage. She co-founded a non-profit Hip-Hop dancer theater company named Full Circle in 1996 with her husband Kwikstep. She directs the performances as well as manages it's administrative needs. Roka began introducing her vocal skills in 1999 during open mics where she would add song choruses to her poetry at the POINT, BAAD, EL Puente and in the village. During Full Circle performances she would add her poetry as transitions between dance pieces and audiences embraced her powerful voice as an added feature to her iconic status as a dance force..... The public's desire to see her spin on her head follows her everywhere-- she always concedes and gives them what they want as a surprise during her vocal sets. Her poetry was published in an anthology of Bronx Poets and only recently she has gotten to record some of her songs. In 2005 she debuted an acapella version of the break dance anthem "Just Begun" at Club Shelter and has yet to record it with her Black Diamonds all-girl crew. She was a supporting actress in the film 'ON THE OUTS' and performs monologues in the theater duet 'INNAVIEWS' which is set to tour in 08/09. She is working with her band 'Revolutions Per Minute' on a new single with whom she is currently performing her eclectic set of latin soul break fusion out of town. She is producing a film on women who break and is writing her memoirs. She represents a woman who is always reaching for the skies, yet grounded in her traditional cultures.. both Boricua and Hip-Hop..... ....LA ROKA HAS BEEN A FEATURED SINGER IN: ...... -Red Hook Festival - Full Circle Prod Inc Hip-hop Theater shows.. - The Orphan Family rap group Performances.. - The Universes (Slanguage) theater show.. - We Got Issues-poetry ensemble.. - MC/ I-Shea.. - STAGE: The New Victory Theater.. - NYU-Skirball Theater.. - Kennedy Center D.C.. - Dance Place D.C.. - Central Park Summerstage.. - New Jersey Performance Arts Center.. - NEW World Theater.. - Planet Hollywood.. - Bryant Park.. - Battery Park.. - Bronx Museum of Art.. - El Museo Del Barrio.... ....CLUBS:...... -Roseland TUMT -Santos Uncomun Festival -The Nuyorican Poets Cafe.. - The Lion's Den.. - The Shelter.. - 169BAR.. - VOlkswagen HAll- BOTY Germany.... ....RECORDINGS:........ ....Independent music created by/w:...... - Baba-Open Thought.. - DP ONE.. - CutmaSter Tee.. - Kwikstep.. - Armand Van Helden.... ..Rokafella...... -
