  • Bio

Larry Friends and Family (LF&F) is a progressive folk-rock band whose album "Cycles" celebrates the cyclic nature of life, joys and sorrows alike, through complex original music blending folk, rock, classical and jazz influences, and powered by the human voice soaring in multi-part harmonies. Founders Dave Baughn, Don Neblock and Mike Wolf started the band in 1969 in Flemington NJ as a drumless, acoustic folk - rock trio showcasing original material. Powerful mult-ipart vocals became a signature for the band as it grew audiences and expanded to later include members Rosemary Eads, Michael Rado and Ed Warner. As college students at Temple and Rutgers Universities in the early 70's, LF&F performed throughout the Philadelphia PA and New Brunswick NJ areas. During this period, LF&F's musical style evolved to bring together classical, jazz, rock and folk elements in original compositions that led to the recording of the full length album of original songs entitled "Cycles" in 1972, recorded in Plainfield NJ by audio engineering legend Bob Spieden (of ribbon mic inventor fame) and Greg Lane of Dharma Productions. Although the band intended to independently release the vinyl LP, the band later drifted apart and the album was never completed. After 1973, the album remained unreleased and the project faded from memory. Over the succeeding years, while the band members made careers and families, they gathered together every year to celebrate their friendship and reminisce happy times with the band. During an annual gathering in late 2006, LF&F imagined what might have seemed impossible - to finally complete and release the album as a CD. At that point it was not known if the tape still existed. In early 2007, the band reconnected to Greg Lane through the band's MySpace site. Thanks to careful storage and archiving, Lane still had the taped master and was willing to continue the project after the "small delay". The master was determined to be in excellent condition. The album was digitally re-mastered and produced as full length CD album in a 6-panel digipak. The album was released independently in March 2010, 38 years after it was recorded. Recent reviews of the album have suggested its diversity of vocals, instrumentation and song styles to be reminiscent of The Seekers, Renaissance and Strawbs…and ahead of its time. Energized by release of the album, LF&F reunited for live performances in 2009 and continues to perform for select engagements, including opening for Acoustic Strawbs on July 3rd, 2009 at the Strand Theater in Lakewood NJ.
