About Larry Gillis & His Hard Driving Bluegrass Band
We are excited to let you know that Larry Gillis is back full force, and headed to the top for the second time in his life.
When it comes to hard driving Bluegrass Music (especially in the last two decades), Larry Gillis is the man most people think of. Through the 90s, he and his brother John performed at just about every festival known to man. They were known as The Gillis Brothers and received such an acceptance by Bluegrass fans, that once they hit the stage, they had the audience in the palm of their hands for the rest of the night. One of their most well known songs was recorded in 1995 and was the titled song for the album "Heart & Soul" on Rebel records, which became a favorite to all hard driving Bluegrass fans. It was shortly after this The Gillis Brothers decided to take a break and raise families down in Soperton, Georgia.
Now let's fast forward to 2008: Larry Gillis has made up his mind to set the woods on fire all over again, with just as much energy as before... including a young, hard driving, all new band to perform by his side. In late 2008, Larry released "Old Man Dreaming," an album with original songs and great Gillis classics as well and started rising back to the top by early '09.
As we head into the Fall of 2009, Larry and the boys have already been from New York, to Colorado, to Oregon & California, not to mention all of the south-eastern states, and summer isn't over yet! You can soon be catching them on RFD's Cumberland Highlanders' International TV show, as they head to Rosine, KY in October to film their featured portion at the Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Celebration.
Larry & the Boys are hard at work in the studio to produce two brand new albums by the end of the year as well. Larry says, "This band I have now is not only the greatest I have ever had, but I love them just like my own family. And folks, I can't wait for you to hear these two new albums because they will be the greatest work and quality that me and my band have ever done in all my years of performing!"
Although his brother John remains in retirement, Larry (at age 46) is now bringing even more excitement to The Gillis Show as before with his 'all young' hard driving band! So Bluegrass fans get ready, Larry & His Hard Driving Bluegrass Band will be heading your way very soon, because the man who put hard driving Bluegrass in "over-drive" is back with his banjo, powerhouse tenor vocals, and his new band to tear the house down!
