I started my career in music in 1957 in Dallas, TX.
My first songs to ever sing public were "Money Honey", "Johnnie Be Good", and "Mean Woman Blues", on the Big D Label (Pappy Daily) with Tommy Hudson and The Savoy's. These were recorded at Sellers Company Recording Studio in Dallas, Texas. I recorded "Swanne River Gal" which received a 4 Star review in Billboard Magazine. Dick Clark wanted us on American Bandstand, but Uncle Sam got me. My music career was put on hold for a season. In April 1960, KLIF-1190 hosted the April Shower of Stars at the Memorial Auditorium in Dallas,Texas. I was one of many performing that night. By the end of 1960 I was a married man and my music career again was put on hold.
In 1970 my Country singles, "Till Love Grows on a Tree" and "Bring Your Love Back To Me", Nuggett Label, were released with reviews in Record Word Magazine. In 1970 I recorded my first gospel album, "Diamonds and Gold" on my own label, Challenge Records. During the 70's and 80's I sang and produced nine gospel albums, one of which was entitled "Free Spirit Band" featuring Joe Wright (my oldest son).
God opened a door during the 1980's in Hollywood where we met monthly at the Universal Sheraton Hotel sharing Jesus to people in the motion picture business. There were over 200 converts of which some left the industry and became ministers of the gospel. I had the privilege of winning Vic Morrow to the Lord just weeks before his death. Life Unlimited Ministry an outreach of Larry Joe Wright Ministries was the first Christian Organization to have monthly ads in the Variety Magazine.
My younger brother Richard being an actor and director gave me the opportunity of working on several shows. The one I enjoyed working on the most was "Hook" where I played one of the pirates. God opens doors for us and when He does be ready to let the light of His Glory shine.
My latest release titled, "After All These Years" was recorded at Coleman Studio, Gulf Breeze, Florida. Title song was written by my good friend Del Way. In the Fall of 2008 "Larry Joe Wright Classic 1-4" will be released.
I have had the honor and privilege to sing and share the gospel of Jesus Christ in thousands of venues across this nation for the past 38 years.
