About Larry:

Larry's writing remembers the spirit of the grizzly, the spirit of the woods, even the spirit of his little cabin. All of them are there, in his songs, and he introduces his listeners to them as the old friends that they are. Each one tells a story that brings you a little closer to the story teller. To experience Larry's performance is to enjoy a true folk artist. Larry has shared the stage with the likes of Bill Staines, Jonathan Edwards, Guy Davis, Dan Bern, Pierce Pettis, Janice Ian and Susan Werner to name a few. His songs have been heard on television and have been included on many compilation discs. Larry returned to the East Coast in 2006 after recording his latest record, No Place Special, as a tribute and fundraiser for a Massachusetts family raising two daughters with life-threatening disabilities.

"When Larry Zarella opens his suitcase of original songs, there's no telling what will get pulled out. Heartbreakingly beautiful... clever... as well as laugh-out-loud funny songs. He draws the audience in with his stories and powerful music. He's clearly one of Alaska's best-kept secrets." - Trudy Heffernan, Acoustic Adventures Promotions

"Larry is a great songwriter, not only are his lyrics and melodies compelling, on top of that, he has something worthwhile to say." -Bill Staines

"Larry's recordings are immediately listenable. They are almost as good as seeing him live. This guy has a voice that is both powerful and sensitive, a sincere and engaging stage presence, and a strong, expressive guitar style. He writes from the heart about love, friendships, community, and humorous situations that pervade life in rural Alaska...."-Esther Golton, Whole Wheat Radio

Hey Larry!
I saw you perform as the open mic feature at Tupelo several months ago. You were fantastic!
I'm flattered by your friend request! Thanks for stopping by.
I'm sure I'll be seeing you around again soon. We seem to be playing all of the same places on different days...one of these days, we'll be in the same place at the same time again!

Larry --

It was great seeing and hearing you at the Nashua Folk Festival, and an honor to back you up on your closing song on that set.

You are one heck of a storyteller and songwriter, and very original.

Maybe our paths will cross again sometime. Again, thanks.

You have a great website here…
There’s lots of room to spread out and put your feet up. The music is great and the mood that you create is just right.
It’s a perfect place!

And did we mention that the The ROBOTS FROM MARS have a new song,
“Spaceship Earth”

“Better plug your ears so that your brains don’t leak out…”
Johnny Air Guitar.

Visit their My Space page to experience the #1 song from the Red Planet.
The reviews have begun to come in:

“Spaceship Earth is destined to become the worst song of all time!”
The Psychic News Network

“Spaceship Earth sounds like it was played by a bunch of drunken robots…”
The Snob Blog & Party Hearty Militia

“Can’t wait to jam with the Robots From Mars!”
Bill Clinton

“Yuck Yuck…The Robots From Mars sound like Devo on uppers…”
George W.

“The Robots From Mars are incredibly boring in a heavy handed low brow sort of way.”
Dick Cheney

“Spaceship Earth will take you to a place that you don’t want to go!”
Barak Obama

“Just like some Democrats we know,” John McCain

“If you are really really BUZZED and you squint really really hard, the Robots From Mars don’t SOUND half bad,” Bender,
“And it shouldn’t matter that they paid me to say that…
I still get to keep the money, right?”

Hi, Larry,

It was an absolute honor to share the stage with you this weekend at the Nashua Folk Festival. Thanks for inviting me and the band to join you on that last song.

More importantly, all of us enjoyed your set and music. You have a knack for writing lyrics and delivering your songs in a very natural, almost conversational way. Your guitar work is also exceptional and complements your vocals nicely.

Super performance. Keep the spirit alive, my friend. You have something very special.
