Charlotte, NC (March 21, 2007) – La Rúa, the Charlotte band who led the Rock en Español (Latin Rock)movement in the Southeast for the past five years, has amicably split
Comprised of drummer/lead singer Juan Miguel Marin, guitarist Tony Arreaza, guitarist and vocalist Jorge Loor, bass player Juan Pablo Chavez, and Herman Marin on the Keyboards, La Rúa was formed in October 2002, and has been playing numerous concerts ever since.
“After almost five years, we felt that La Rúa accomplished far more than what we originally got together for. We all just wanted to make music in our own language and hopefully make an impact. It has been an amazing experience for all of us, as we never imagined playing music in our language in a foreign land, and for that we are thankful…. Now it is time to move on,” says Juan Miguel Marin. “While Tony and myself will continue to pursue music and Carlotan Rock Productions, a company we created that specializes in bringing Latin Rock bands to Charlotte, Juan Pablo has decided to pursue personal projects, and Jorge and his wife are about to become parents, welcoming their first child early this spring. We are extremely proud to have been the pioneers in the Southeast’s Rock en Español movement, and encourage other bands in the area to keep playing, keep writing music, and keep this movement going strong”
Since their inception in 2002, La Rúa paved the way for Latin Rock in the Southeast. Some of their accomplishments include the filming of the region’s first Spanish-language music video “El Chanchito”. “El Chanchito,”also the region’s first High Definition music video, tells the story about an immigrant’s life in the United States, and his efforts to work hard, save money, and bring his girlfriend from Latin America, to be with him. “El Chanchito” earned worldwide coverage thanks to its constant rotation on MTV Español as well as on MUN2 among other international TV networks.
Furthermore, La Rúa was the first Latin Rock act to break through, perform, and open the doors for other Latin Rock acts in many music venues in the area, including The Visulite, The Evening Muse, The Neighborhood Theater and Tremont Music Hall.
In January 2004, La Rúa also wrote and recorded the region’s first Spanish-language Latin Rock album, Una Noche de Abril, comprised of 12 original songs. In August 2006, La Rúa released a 6-song EP, MuseSessions, also comprised of original songs plus their 2 music videos, “El Chanchito” and “La Jeva.”
La Rúa was voted as Creative Loafing’s Best Live Band in 2005, and in October 2006, was featured on the Charlotte Observer’s “All-Stars of the Arts” series. The band has also been featured numerous times in The Charlotte Observer, Creative Loafing, La Noticia, Qué Pasa, WFAE 90.7 FM, La Tremenda 1310AM, as well as in national magazines including Paste, Harp and Boom!.
Members of La Rúa wish to thank all of their fans friends and families specially David Pell and Steve Saxon, the media and all the reporters, all the music venues, their sponsors, and all the members of the Charlotte and regional community who supported La Rúa from their very first concert, October 2002, through their last concert at the Neighborhood Theatre on December 7, 2006. “Un millón de gracias”…
