LARUNE is the shapeshifting muse and moniker for the American storyteller, songwriter, singer and playwright Kamara Thomas... Being of the Bard and Bird Tribes, she writes songs everywhere she goes about everything she knows. These are the troubador-troupes with whom she travels:
EARL GREYHOUND * www.earlgreyhound.com, www.myspace.com/earlgreyhound, www.facebook.com/earlgreyhound *
Rock, soul, and bales of banshee wailing. Kamara Thomas on vocals, Matt Whyte on guitar and vocals, Gbatukai Dakinah on bass, and Ricc Sheridan on drums... NEW ALBUM OUT JANUARY 2010! Listen to "The Eyes of Cassandra" above for a little taste!
GHOST GAMBLERS * www.myspace.com/ghostgamblers, ghostgamblers@gmail.com *
Ghost Gamblers is the cosmic-country fruit of the long-running, funtime show Honky Tonk Happy Hour that Kamara directed at The Living Room for many years. A talented line-up of songwriters, singers and musicians, Ghost Gamblers delivers mellow pop and country grooves, a few awesome covers, and lots of dreamy harmonies. As fate would have it, many of the songs are indeed ghost stories! Kamara Thomas on vox and acoustic git, Gordon Hartin on pedal steel, Amal Bouhabib on glorious vox, John Durgee on the kit, Jeff Malinowski on electric git and vox, Gabriel Berezin on bass and vox. Listen to Kamara's song "Stranded in San Antone" for a taste, and get the Ghost Gamblers new EP "Ghost Stories Vol. 1" on iTunes NOW!
ANNWYN ARTS COMPANY * annwynarts@gmail.com *
Seeking expansion as a storyteller, Kamara returned to her roots in theatre and began developing musical stories for the stage. Annwyn Arts Company is a storytelling production group that Kamara co-founded with Cassie O'Sullivan to facilitate the creation of new works for theatre. AAC is comprised of like-minded musicians, theatre artists and designers dedicated to discovering and experiencing the ancient arts of storytelling and ritual.
Theatre works currently in development include:
BULGARIA, a musical faerie tale and Orphic ritual that explores the mythological terrain of the female artist-- death, suicide and Black Sea vacations set in a winter-woodland underworld ruled by bird people, ghosts and faeries. Music written by Kamara Thomas and Matt Whyte. Songs by Kamara Thomas, Matt Whyte, Suzan Hurtuk, Gabriel Berezin.
TULAROSA, a musical exploration of the underground mythologies and histories the Wild West that have helped to shape America's ideas of itself, written in traditional folk, country and Americana styles.
