Defra estimates that between 6,000 - 10,000 horses are slaughtered in the UK annually, for human consumption abroad. The slaughter takes place at two slaughterhouses in the UK.
The first slaughterhouse is south of the historic Cheshire town of Nantwich. Those in the racing industry know the establishment as Turners, the surname of the family that has run it since 1972. But it is also called the Red Lion Abattoir or Cheshire Equine Services. The second abattoir is in a village on the outskirts of Taunton, Somerset,and is hired by Bristol-based firm Lawrence J Potter for a weekly horse cull on Wednesdays. These two operations take care of the vast bulk of the 6,000 to 10,000 horses the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs estimates are being killed annually for consumption abroad.

plastic doors. Four men were dressed in white coats covered in blood. Up above, three horse carcasses were hanging upside down with metal shackles tied halfway up their hind legs. Their hooves had been cut off and theheads had been removed. One man was using knives to skin the dead animals. Our reporter was not allowed to see where the horses were shot 'because there are live bullets'. As we walked through the holding pen, a gunshotwent off. Two young thoroughbreds jumped and began biting each other's necks, which were covered in red welts
STILLMANS EXPOSED: 20TH SEPTEMBER 2007 Animal Aid (Thursday, September 20 2007) releases footage secretly filmed in an English abattoir. It shows discarded children’s riding ponies and unprofitable race horses being shot in the head with a rifle and then butchered for human consumption.It is the first time that such scenes have been filmed in Britain and made public.
Covertly recorded last month at Potter’s [& Stillmans] abattoir in Taunton, the Animal Aid footage shows the killing of a succession of apparently fit and healthy horses. One conspicuous exception was a seriously injured chestnut mare who was brought to the killing factory on the evening of August 14. After a long delay, she was finally shot while lying in a yard.

It will never work', my mum said 'listen to your heart'. Bless you mum.

We aim to rescue and rehabilitate any horse or pony in need, with the view to rehoming them to suitable long term loan homes once they are recovered and ready to be rehomed.
Another equine rescue centre is clearly needed in the south-west as local equine charities are continuously full and are having to turn unwanted horses and ponies away every week.
Although Last Angel Equine Rescue is currently a non-profit organisation, our aim is to become a registered charity. We believe this to be the most beneficial step for our organisation, and therefore the most beneficial step for horses and ponies in need of rescue and rehabilitation. Therefore, we are in the process of applying for charitable status. I

Last Angel Equine Rescue needs your help to be able to offer rehabilitation to more unwanted horses and ponies, and we need your help now. Unfortunately, many horse owners either do not wish to, or cannot, care for a horse for its natural lifetime. Many owners want a horse that can be ridden. If the horse is no longer useful to them, the horse is disposed of. Or, they may simply find that keeping the horse is too expensive.
As the credit crunch takes hold, Sanctuaries in the UK are full to beyond bursting point and there are a growing number of reports of horses being dumped across the country. There has been a recent report, for example, by Equine Market Watch from a horse auction in the UK where owners whose horses were not sold at the sale, simply drove off and left their horses behind. Quote from EMW report: "As the economic crisis deepens so the value of horses and ponies ending up in auctions declines alarmingly. EMW Sanctuaries learned today that at a certain midlands auction on saturday ponies were being unload and left depsite not being sold. The owners simply driving off and leaving them.The meat lorries were loaded to the hilt and values were such that many simply did not raise a bid...with the new crop of foals due in the next few months the buyers are just not there. Our advice to those who may be thinking of breeding is this, DON'T!"

Race Horse Death Watch
Animal Aid's Race Horse Death Watch was launched just before the 2007 Grand National. Its purpose is to expose and record every on-course thoroughbred fatality in the UK.
The horse racing authorities have resolutely failed to put horse death information into the public domain, preferring to dismiss equine fatalities as ‘accidental’ and ‘unexplained’. Even when several horses die at a single meeting, the term ‘statistical blip’ is often deployed.
Animal Aid has produced a series of revealing reports over the last seven years exposing the welfare problems associated with Thoroughbred breeding, racing, training and disposal of commercially ‘unproductive’ horses. Our research indicates that an average of 375 horses are raced to death every year. One-third die on racecourses, while the others are destroyed as a result of training injuries, or are killed because they are no longer commercially viable.

Nearly lost her last year, she went down and no-one including specialists could find what was wrong with her It was her back end somewhere but it could have been anything from muscular to dental to anything... Our brilliant farrier in the end found the cause a very very rare form of laminitis Since then she is on a very strict diet and kept stress free and has recovered brilliantly into the cheeky madam she is today!

This elderly lady went to hospital for surgery... Put dog in kennel. She had to stay 7 weeks in hosp.
She paid mostly everything but 200. Dog was not to be released. She then paid that amount, but bill went up. She paid $1,500 to kennel, now 2 months later kennel still won't release but also says she owes $2,000 now. The dog has been there over 3 months. No bath. Now has large cyst, getting bigger. The old dogs spirit is being broken living in small cage with no walks. This dog is used to being spoiled, the kennel will not even let the owner look at dog through window!!
I spoke with the kennel owner. She tried telling me Ariela's mom went to the Bahamas and never came back for her dogs for months. That Ariela's mom was homeless, ect. Ariela's mom did produce paperwork stating sh had surgery, and she has lived at her place for some time. FYI, it does not really matter, Ariela is her and the KENNEL HAS NO RIGHT TO KEEP ARIELA!!!!
