LAST ONE PICKED fuses original Rock, Blues and Country into a high energy blend of real, original American Rock music. With melodic, story-based material, and exciting live performances, there’s a bit of something for everyone at a LAST ONE PICKED performance. Influenced by early material from Tom Petty, Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms and others, LAST ONE PICKED material feels real and comfortable.
Singer/songwriter Chip Johnson fronted headlining acts in Southern California during the hard rock fueled 80’s and 90’s. When Johnson moved north and started LAST ONE PICKED, the hard edged, prog-rock material felt phony and contrived. All the material and half the band was scraped for the present style, which Johnson describes as “faux-alt-country rock”; rural and honest, hard driving and fun, but more in tune with music the band actually likes and listens to.
Bassist Tim Rich is the lone holdover from the original band. Rich brings a creative, moving bottom end to the band and shares lead vocal chores on occasion. The musicianship and technical ability that defines the LAST ONE PICKED sound is provided by lead guitar player Bob Chamberlin. Kyle Pesonen rounds out the quartet on drums, providing the solid foundation and his experience from years as a touring musician.
In August 2007, LAST ONE PICKED released their 12 song debut CD, “Strangers & Consequences”, on their own label. Recorded in Oakland, California, produced by Johnson and mastered by Ty Tabor (King’s X), the CD showcases the variety of styles LAST ONE PICKED covers in their live shows. The CD is available from the band directly, or at a number of online outlets including iTunes, CDBaby.com, and others.
