This society (from Rennes, Bretagne, France) was born in may 1984 on the ashes of the band Sarajevo, which played an impossible compromise between Pere Ubu, Wire and such bands.
Among the members who founded the band, are : Jim B (Guitar) and Pascal Godjikian (vocals, lyrics). Patrice Babin (drums, percussion) joined in the beginning of 85.
A 4 track-EP was released in 1986 on Illusion Produktion, the label of the band Deficit des Années Antérieures (D.D.A.A.), then an LP in 1990 ; on this one could be found no less than 12 musicians : except the founder members, trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, synthesizer, cello
and three bass guitar players could be heard ! Some members left and the arrival of Christophe Gautheur (Saxophone, Synthesizer) led to the concept-miniCD "Le Femme : Portraits" (The Wife : Portraits) in 93. Then the band stabilized with the bass player François Morel. The society released then three new recordings on the french label Prikosnovénie : "Les Explositionnistes" in 1995, "L'Enciversel Marsac" in 98 and "Expériences de Survie"
(experiences of survival) in 99. "Les Explositionnistes" is inspired by paintings of Max Ernst, Picasso, Asger Jorn, Lyonel Feininger ... In a darker register, "Expériences de Survie " developps compositions on the subject of wars and suffering of the populations (war in
Bosnia, armenian Genocide...). In 2001 Benoît Delaune took the bass of François Morel. This same year, a rerelease of the first EP and LP (as “86-90”) is published thanks to the Label of Portland, usa, Beta-Lactam Ring (Nurse With Wound, Legendary Pink Dots & Edward Ka-Spel...). This same label released then a compilation CD/LP with tracks from different areas of the band : 1992-1993, und 1984-1989 ; "Le Combat Occulté" (the concealed fight) . An ArchivCompilation, with rare and unreleased tracks. Then in 2006, a new record (CD, LP, Picture Disk) is released : "Tranches de Temps Jeté / Slices of Thrown Time". These tracks were composed and recorded between 2000 and 2004. In 2008, Guillaume Dubreu becomes the new bass, cello and trombone player. A split CD / LP with the english band Volcano The Bear is released in 2009. On this album, La Stpo has 4 tracks, 30 minutes of new music. It's called "The Shy Volcanic Society at the Bear and Bird Parade" and it's getting rave reviews.

Art Zoïd, the Résidents, Patton ??? Le déroulement étonnant d’un langage. Nota bene (Kriss de HGBTF)
