Sounds Like
Washington City Paper: "...noisy, and atmospheric, Last Tide is invested as much in mid-’80s navel-gazing as late-’80s shoegaze [...] the group’s new EP, The Broken Places, is an engrossing study in dichotomies—the five songs are vociferous yet ebullient, miserable yet poppy, weather-worn yet insistent."
S-Box: "[T]his debut EP advances a thoroughly modern kind of post-rock, with bristling riffs, involving rhythms and convoluted harmonies: the music flows naturally, the instruments chat warmly or roughly when it's necessary, and melodic undercurrents provide the center of gravity."
Here Comes the Flood:"Not as experimental as Sonic Youth, but with a broader musical horizon than the revived Dinosaur Jr, this band shows a lot of promise."
A New Band a Day:"Last Tide gather together threads of post-rock, shoegaze, psychedelia and weave a concrete-hued cloth. Making drab delightful."
Last Tide is a DC-based band consisting of Nate Frey on guitars/vox, Rob Miller on bass, Libby Dorot on synth/vox, and Misha Alexander on drums/vox. The band is heavily influenced by the shoegaze and slowcore scenes, but also draws from punk, experimental music, and post-rock, among other sources. Their music is distinguished by a focus on strong melodies and carefully considered arrangements. The band has performed with numerous notable regional and national acts, and showcased at CMJ 2009. They will be performing frequently throughout DC and other East Coast cities over the coming months.
