The Lastwind live band usually consists of myself (vocals, keyboards and programming) and French multi-instrumentalist, OBNY.
However, for the World Tour of Bristol October 2008 I will be joined by brilliant young Bristol guitarist, JOE WILKINS and LAURENCE DE LOES joining me on vocals.
Influences
A hard one : I've been around for a while and have always been a keen listener and gig-goer. My background was the sixties and seventies so those influences will be around. I discovered 'dance music' and the e scene in 1990 and that had a huge effect on me and totally widened my scope.
I've always loved black music, since my mod days with soul and ska. Having a black partner and living in quite a black world has only increased that.
Basically me plus guests. I'm a keyboard player and sometime vocalist.
Played in West of England band ARK : 1973-77.
Played in HAWKWIND and spin off band SONIC ASSASSINS : 1977-78.
Moved to South of France in late 78.
While in France played in several bands : LAST EXIT, LEGEND, STRADIVARIUS, TWICE AS NICE etc.
TOPPER HEADON of CLASH drummed on demos of my songs recorded in France.
Returned to the UK in 1990.
Played for a while with the CROPDUSTERS.
Since have mainly worked on writing and recording including working on an album with JALAL NURRIDIN of the LAST POETS, one of the first Hip Hop bands.
More recently have played live in Dominica and France where I spend my time when not at home in Bristol, UK. And of course, in Autumn 2006, we supported HAWKWIND on their British tour - some great gigs with a great reception for us. Good to see some old faces after all those years. And these people knew more about me than I do !!!
2007 passed in a flash. Working on a lot of new songs and hoping to do some shows later in 2008 as well as get an album out.
Just to let you know about an extra-special New Root gig on Saturday 31st May @ The Croft, Bristol.
We're doing a headline set featuring Visual Projections from VJ James Bragg and everyone gets a FREE copy of our new 'Sick of Me' EP on the door. Venue Magazine described it as '...an extraordinary sound...a sort of power pop/goth/rock opera hybrid...the most exhilarating thing we've heard all week'.
There also support from Sally-Anne Langton - 'one of Bristol's most promising singer/songwriters' - plus Special Guests. All for £5. You can buy tickets in advance from www. thenewroot. com
