Influences
I enjoy listening to so many artist, and lots of styles of music. Anita Baker, Dave Matthews Band, Crystal Lewis, Celia Cruz, Stevie Wonder, Newsboys, Marvin Gaye, and Chris Rice are a few of my favorites. My mom, cousins, aunts; I am surrounded by people who have been blessed with so much talent and they make me want to learn what they know and apply it to what I do. In life my main influence is Christ. He captured my life and my heart at eight years old and has been molding me ever since. I look forward to the finished product, but I am pleased with where He has me, and where He brought me from.

She is able to manuever effortlessly between the styles while expressing her faith and sharing her love for Christ. Her sound is reminiscent of a combination of India Arie, Kelly Clarkson-style pop rock, and Nicole C. Mullen, with a twist of Norah Jones.

Patience, and persistence; when coupled together best describe the beautiful chemistry that is Latasha Morgan. With the understanding that it is crucial in life to trust and wait on God, she does her best not to run ahead of the Lord when He is not leading. Born a minister’s daughter, she was taught early about the everlasting love of Christ and how He alone came to offer salvation to each and every person who was willing to accept Him. With that in mind, she chose to accept Christ at the early age of eight years old and began a life that would prove that God always has everything under control.
latasha’s father says that she would lay in her crib singing little melodies, and he was amazed that before she could crawl, walk, or speak she was creating songs in her heart and trying to share them with whoever was near to listen. As she matured, Latasha decided to overcome a horrible shyness that would have been crippling had she allowed it. Latasha joined everything musical; her elementary school music group, church choir and took any opportunity that was presented where she could sing and share her love for music. She began piano and voice lessons at eight years old, desiring to know more of her craft.
On stage, she was a natural and felt welcomed and right at home. In Junior High School she began to work on her songwriting abilities, wanting to perfect them. The opportunity came for her to write for her first show and again she gave her all for such a wonderful occasion; The Annual A.T. Show. This show gave her the understanding and confidence that what she most wanted to do was to write, sing and perform her own music.
In 1992 a new school was auditioning for talented actors, dancers and singers and when she heard about it, Latasha began diligently preparing material to impress the judges of the auditions. (And it certainly paid off) She was accepted at the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies and Performing Arts, where she studied music, tap, jazz, acting, along with her regular curriculum. While there she was approached by various record companies, but being under age; her father felt she was not ready for that and so any talk of a record deal would be turned down. ( a true blessing)
Unwilling to waiver, she auditioned for a job as a singing waitress at Roxy’s Diner; one of her more enjoyable jobs, she recalls. It was here that Las Vegas came to Latasha. She was offered jobs for shows, placed on billboards, in magazines, newspapers, commercials and was really enjoying life, but longing to be even closer to God. Confused about why she was feeling this way she began to question if where she was is where God had placed her? Realizing what had finally become obvious she walked away from the Las Vegas neon lights, and took the next five years to build a more intimate relationship with Christ, and that has made all the difference. Combining her love for Christ, His Love and His Sacrifice; she now sings of her relationship and belief in a God so real that the music, she admits, sincerely ministers to her even while writing it.
With a style she refers to as “gospel funk rock meets acoustic soul,” Latasha is sure to inspire you with her beautiful soul stirring melodies and Christ inspired words. This music was created to draw anyone to desire a true and intimate relationship with Christ.
STREETS OF GOLD by LATASHA MORGAN
In 2Timothy 1:9, God's Word reads "For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was His plan from before the beginning of time; to show us His grace through Christ Jesus.
Wow!!! Every morning that I wake up, I celebrate this fact; that God is the one and only true example of what love is and what love does. I am so thankful.
I am blessed to serve a God who is so unselfish that even before He made man, He knew we would fall. God had a plan of love in place from the beginning. As a parent, I get a molecule of an understanding as it relates to this.
Many people may not be aware of the statement I am about to make; children (and parents) are not perfect! We are all born flawed in our nature and yet, as parents we love our children. We desperately want to understand them just to be able to give them our best to inspire them towards their best.
Well, that is what the Lord decided to do before He created any of us. He decided to give us His best so that our best could be achieved. He spared no expense when he gave us life through the sacrifice of His son Christ Jesus. Because of this, we should always show our love and gratitude to our Savior who we can never repay.
I can't explain this album without first explaining something of the love and sacrifice God made through Christ Jesus. He is the beginning and center of it all. I am always praying for His direction; seeking His guidance; and working to always stand in His Sacrifice.
I am excited to give my complete surrender to a God that loved me so much, all of us so much that He went ahead and created us with the knowledge and understanding that we would fail. Then God made for us, a provision; a gift of mercy and grace. That gift of grace, if we accept it, allows us to one day stand in His glory and live with Him forever.
My life is not about me; it's about serving the one true living God, and encouraging others to do the same. So I will sing to the Lord as long as I live. I will prasie my God to my last breath! This is the inspiration and sentiment behind every song I write and sing. I hope you enjoy them.
