Latino Theater Company @ the NEW LATC preparing for the Fall Season @ THE NEW LATC Grand Opening September 12th! Ofelia Medina! Posted at 4:48 AM Aug 6, 2008 view more
About me: The Latino Theater Company became the new operators of the Los Angeles Theatre Center located in the historic core of downtown Los Angeles in January 2006.
After over 20 years of exploring the Latino experience in bold, contemporary terms, the Latino Theater Company acknowledges and embraces the New Los Angeles; a Los Angeles that is one of the most diverse cities in the world. Our goal is to create a space that reflects this rich diversity.
The new vibrant LATC will be a microcosm of the new Los Angeles; a destination center for those pursuing artistic excellence; a laboratory where both tradition and innovation are honored and honed. The LATC theatre programming will capture the creative vitality that comes from people telling their own stories and digging deep into their own traditions to address important issues of our day. The planned Summer Conservatory will pass these skills and experiences to young and emerging artists. Together the theatre, conservatory, museum, cafe and store will create a space amidst the excitement of downtown Los Angeles; a space where the convergence of people, cultures and ideas give birth to our future.
It's a great time to live in Los Angeles! Please join as at the new LATC on Spring Street as we create a multi-disciplinary, cultural arts center where diversity is not the exception but the rule.

This workshop is an exploration of important contemporary themes. As artists we all have questions about the human experience and our relationship to the world. Using Octavio Paz’s Labyrinth of Solitude as a point of departure, this is the second work session to furthur develop script, structure, dance & movement. This process is in preparation for a full production in Spring 2009.

TO THE DEATH OF MY OWN FAMILY, by David L. Meth, is coming back to the city after a two week tour through four cities in India: Chennai, Bangalore, Pondicherry and Mumbai, where we had to turn away theater-goers and nearly had a riot. So we decided to do an unplanned, second performance. It was standing-room-only and standing ovations throughout the tour. Therefore, I would like to invite all to visit my web site where you can take a tour, see a slide show, and read comments from the Indian press, including Time Out Mumbai:

Please join us to see Farah Bala's mesmerizing performance in a one-woman show with 15 characters in an intensely dramatic non-linear drama directed by Drama Guild Member Peter Ratray, veteran of Broadway, Off-Broadway, TV and film.
TO THE DEATH OF MY OWN FAMILY is the story of an Afghan-American woman who returns to Afghanistan to help her father escape and witnesses the slaughter of her entire family. She then has to justify her journey and reclaim her citizenship during an interrogation when she returns to the United States.

Yeah, yeah... we know few people actually graduate in July and we're kind of late to make this the June issue, but we've got good reasons for the delay! Our editor-in-chief and one of our staff members, Jake and Esbeydy, were busy getting married. Yes, Puro Pedo Magazine staff members are romantics at heart, sorta.
Anyway, this issue is about congratulating the class of 2007, whether you earned a BA/BS or just finished 8th grade. ¡Felicidades!
In this issue: - Graduation speech inspired by Chicano cult classic film - The Institute for the Frida Kahlo Obsessed - Dodgers officially change name to “Los Doyers” - California education board unveiles Ese-T’s - Local militia protects Echo Park from hipsters - 20 signs your barrio’s been gentrified - Hillybilly misinterprets constitutional right to bear arms - Cavaliers blame God for NBA championship loss - Faces in the crowd: What did you do on May 1st, 2007 - Comic by Lalo Alcaraz
The issue is ready for download, but we still need to distribute it around LA. We'll post locations of sites where you can pick it up soon, so check the blog for information.
