Latin Style is a free monthly Latin cultural entertainment and educational magazine, founded in Tokyo, Japan in 2009 by Chicano capoeira instructor Arturo Urena and Nuyorican DJ Marc Antomattei.
History
Latin Style magazine, the brainchild of Tokyo based American co-founders Arturo Urena and Marc Antomattei was conceptualized in April 2009 and fully realized in June 2009 when the debut issue was released. It was first released to the public on June 1, 2009 digitally via the internet and shortly after in print form on June 9, 2009. It can be found in some of the Greater Tokyo cities such as Central Tokyo, Yokohama, and Chiba and additionally in Okinawa, Japan. It targets a wide demographic of people consisting of adults (all ages), Japanese and English speakers, and Latinos. The content is focused on Latin culture, music and dance in and outside of Japan.
Japan has many free magazines (known as free papers) and a majority of them are only intended for Japanese speakers or English speakers, but never both. The co-founders agreed upon making a bilingual magazine that could reach a broader audience and everyone could enjoy together. Plans to build upon the Latin Style brand name in the future include a fashion clothing line of the same name.
