BIOGRAPHY
It isn't very often that a young child experiences a moment of epiphany such as the one that Dutch singer-songwriter Latisha Van Simon did when she came upon her passion in life. Van Simon and her family were attending the performance of the musical Annie at the Carre Theatre in Amsterdam when she was ten years old. She had no idea what to expect before the show started, but she was totally thrown aback when Annie's character came on stage and began to sing. Annie continued on for another season and after auditioning Latisha landed the lead part in the musical. The show was a big success, as the group performed the play in several big theatres around the country. Since that moment, Van Simon has been determined to get herself into the spotlight as a singer-songwriter. As her mother recounts, her voice was already far more strong and mature than most children in her age group.
One of four siblings, Van Simon grew up in the Netherlands, and still has strong connections to her home and family. As a young child, she was always very willing and eager to learn, and as a result of her unique intelligence and abilities, her parents decided to enroll her in a Waldorf elementary school. They believed that the unique teaching style that the school offered would allow her to accelerate her singing and performing skills more quickly and thoroughly than she would have at the public schools.
Van Simon opted not to continue in private education after completing Waldorf, and instead decided to enroll in the Coornhert Lyceum in Haarlem. Although it was a public school, Van Simon had several opportunities to write and compose songs, as well as perform them on a larger stage. When she was fifteen, she competed in a singing competition and was awarded best solo artist twice for her regional district. The Dutch press commented once that her voice was three times larger than she was. She also had the privilege of performing in a contest called the "French Concours de la Chanson", which was run by the famous Dutch vocalist Liesbeth List. After Van Simon's performance, Liesbeth commented that she had heard, The voice of God, and further noted, Not only does she sing with determination, she also interprets the emotion of the song in a very convincing manner.
She continued her success on stage all throughout high school, doing workshops with top artists in the Netherlands, as well as being invited to sing with New York's Harlem Gospel Choir. Through these experiences, Van Simon learned valuable skills and made wonderful connections, but she realized that there was still something missing from her music. She decided that the next step in her career would be to study her composition in the United States, which would allow her to hone her knowledge of the English language. Van Simon finished high school, and traveled of to Boston, after receiving a Scholarship for the famous Berklee College of Music.
After a year of studying at Berklee, she found out that this wasn't the right place for her and moved to the West Coast where she is now studying at Musicians Institute, Hollywood. She was nominated Best Stylist in Music and received a Scholarship by Famous bass player and composer Stanley Clarke.
Latisha got an opportunity to perform with legend Stevie Wonder, at his benefit concert "House Full Of Toys" and also shared the stage with King of Soul Solomon Burke, in Amsterdam and Den Haag.
She worked with singer-songwriter FERRAS on a couple songs as a producer which got her a credit as a producer/engineer, on a by Capitol Records, released album.
Latisha auditioned for a new show on MTV, a follow up of Making The Band with Pdiddy, made the final audition but because of contract issues, Latisha decided not to do it.
After graduating from Musicians Institute with a degree in Voice and Audio Engineering Latisha worked on her song "Don't Wanna Cry" with Grammy winning producer Darryl Swann (Macy Gray). Meeting Noni White, her current manager, really helped her career move to the next level. Noni introduced her to former head of NEW LINE MUSIC/CINEMAS Paul Broucek who took Latisha under his wing as an Executive Producer of her album.

lucky girl! you'll love it there! im doing good. i talked to krystle tonight and im thinking i might be moving back to california this year. i was going to move to vegas but crime there is the highest in the nation so probably not the best idea! i found some schools i like but i would need a roommate and cant find anyone that would wanna move to cali. im still contemplating everything but i think its a done deal. have fun this weekend! im jealous!!!!!!
