Welcome to my myspace page! What you might like to know about me: I’m a thriller-writer, a mother, a wife. I’m living proof that dreams do come true. I wrote fiction for almost twenty years before selling my novel, Isabella Moon, and a second book to Ballantine Books in 2006. Isabella Moon debuted in 2007 and is also available on Brilliance Audio. (UK and Australian versions were released in early February.) Also in 2007, Press 53 published Surreal South, an anthology of surreal short fiction and poetry by some of the most remarkable living southern (and southern-minded) authors around. I had the privilege of co-editing Surreal South with Pinckney Benedict, my writer husband and all-around genius guy. Surreal South 2009 is in the works now.
My latest novel Calling Mr. Lonely Hearts is available in hardcover and audio in the U.S. now. It will be available in the U.K. and Australia in May 2009.
My first major short story publication was The Hollow Woman with Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine in 2001. It was later anthologized by the estimable Jon Breen in Best Mysteries of 2001. I was thrilled to have published another piece, The Erstwhile Groom, in the Sept/Oct 2007 double issue of EQMM. Also, I’ve reviewed books for The Grand Rapids Press in Michigan and other papers for the last decade as Laura Philpot Benedict.
Random facts about me: I live in the country, love to bake, never win at tic-tac-toe, don’t really care what sort of car I drive, am (to steal my good friend Margy’s phrase) stubbornly blonde and always hope to make enough money to support trips to my colorist, really like having all the trashcans in my house empty at the same time, think there are few things better than finding a pair of blue jeans that fit, am an unapologetic Christian and imperfect parent, enjoy meeting all sorts of people despite the fact that I’m actually quite shy, and I love to eat good sushi, dark chocolate, and all kinds of cheese (not at the same time!). If you want to know more, I hope you’ll check out my Notes from the Handbasket blog, and my website, www.laurabenedict.com.
Thanks for stopping by!
Who I'd like to meet: Readers, Writers, Closet Optimists
Thanks for the kind friend acceptance, Laura. It is in all ways a pleasure to meet another storyteller. May the adventure continue. I believe you would like Major Westfall as he tackled terrorists in HONOR DEFENDED as they attempt to attack the Washington State ferries. Let me know. May this turning of the Great Wheel of Life bring you many blessings. Be well, DH Winner of the 2008 Silver Medal for Fiction by the Military Writers Society of America (MWSA) Honor Defended on sale now. Book II of the Citizen Warrior series Dedicated to the 'Quiet Professionals The Books of D. H. Brown "War Brothers are not chosen, for In conflict mated, we were created Sentenced as each other's keeper Till death do us part." ~The Major
You have surely heard about the tragic death of a brave young woman who was murdered in Iran just for peacefully protesting with her father on the streets of Teheran.
I’m writing to update you on three new developments. First, Rock & Roll Homicide is now available at Barnes & Noble. Second, last Thursday the cover art was featured on the top mystery blog, Poe’s Deadly Daughters, for the Anthony Awards nominating committee to review. The next day, my novel was the lead on mystery site, Baker Street Clarion. I put a link to both sites on my Media page. To take a look click here. Keep in touch.
I'm in the middle of Isabella Moon and its wonderful! Couldn't hardly put it down to do my homework! lol Oh! I got my local library to order your books. :)
Laura, thanks for being a tomodachi (friend). Your road to publication sounds somewhat like mine -- how nice it is when things finally come to fruition!
You're welcome. I hope Santa is good to me too. =D I am a co-Admin of the Whoosh. org message board and finally thought to start a thread for you and your works.
