Miami/L.A. singer, songwriter and musician Laura Bradley creates a singular pop sound that is haunting, languid and lush on her new CD RAIN as she performs an anthology of poignant stories of love, loss and longing. Although born in Toronto, Canada, Laura attributes her musical roots to the multicultural Miami community where she was raised. "RAIN," the title track and first single to be released from the new CD, debuted on South Florida Clear Channel station Love 94 FM in April. "SKIN," the first single released from Bradley’s freshman effort, STORM was in rotation nationally on hot A/C radio throughout 2006 & 2007 and showcases Bradley’s potent voice, captivating writing, and solid musicianship.
"RAIN," the first single, is currently featured in the film Benny Bliss and the Disciples of Greatness, an official selection of The Sundance Film Festival. "SKIN" is featured in the soundtrack of the feature film Only for You, a Silver Heart Production. "SKIN" was chosen as a featured track on the 2006 female rock compilation CD Females on Fire 2 released on Warrior Girl Records. Bradley toured and performed with Females on Fire, an international rock coalition of female artists in Los Angeles, New York, Dallas and Philadelphia. Two of Bradley’s songs, "FIREGIRL" and "BODY" have been chosen for the 2008 Females on Fire 3 compilation. Another song from RAIN, "CHOOSING YOU," was featured on MTV’s The Real World in January 2008. Just back from Hawaii, Laura toured and performed live on the Clear channel KSSK Perry and Price Show in Honolulu. Hopping over to Maui, she performed a 90-minute live show on KEAO where her songs "BIG ASS LIAR" and "CHOOSING YOU" are in rotation! Both Laura’s in studio performances and live shows are being aired through May of 2008 in Hawaii!
Bradley enjoyed her first arena performance in March, opening in concert for Dionne Warwick at the Bank United Center in Miami. Bradley has also opened in concert for Colin Hay of Men at Work in Miami Shores. Bradley has been recently accepted by the Armed Forces Entertainment and the USO to perform overseas for our troops in the mid-east. Bradley’s holiday tune "Auld Lang Syne," is featured on the Christmas compilation, Traditional and Modern Holiday Music, available in stores and online this December.
Laura’s acting skills debuted in the February 2007 release of the film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, a chaosfilms production, where she plays the principal role of Antonio, Duke of Milan. Laura composed the music for the film with partner Michael Wallace, as well as composing the theme song titled "Sword and Stone," also showcased on her CD RAIN. Currently starring in yet another chaosfilms production, "When Night Falls," Bradley showcases her versatile vocal gifts while portraying a homicidal woman who indeed reaches her tipping point when night falls.
Laura has performed for the major league teams in Miami: The Miami Dolphins, The Miami Heat, The Florida Marlins, as well as the Los Angeles Clippers and a televised HBO Boxing special – singing her version of "The Star Spangled Banner," and when opportunity arises, "O Canada." In the fall of 2007, the Mayor of Newmarket, Ontario, Canada chose Laura’s recording of "O’Canada" to use in his retirement video and to represent the providence of Ontario. To date, Laura’s version of "O’Canada" is the number one digital download of the song in the world.
Singing since she was a tiny child in her stroller, Laura was an unofficial (and the youngest) member of the church choir her mother directed in Coconut Grove, Florida. Laura began songwriting in 1999 after her grandfather died and left each of his six grandchildren $1,000. She used the money to buy a 1920s upright Chickering piano she named Magnolia. Laura says, "She loves me and I love her. She spits out songs and I transcribe them. We are very happy together." Laura plays both piano and guitar and has the quirky habit of naming all of her instruments. There are the guitars – Madeline, her acoustic, Penelope (a hollow-body jazz/electric), and Margaret (a semi-hollow rock/electric). Her newest addition is Delilah (also a semi-hollow rock/electric), who refuses to travel and prefers to live in Miami. Then there are the pianos, Magnolia and her very "grand" mother, Ruby (a turn of the century baby grand Chickering).
An avid hiker, Laura spends her Saturday mornings hiking in the Los Angeles Mountains with her sister Flint, so that she can pursue her true passion of eggs and French toast immediately afterwards. Laura pursues her true passion of post-hike-breakfasting, so that she is fortified to pursue her most secret passion of collecting and refinishing vintage chairs. She currently maintains a storage warehouse containing 7 really old chairs and two antique couches.
Thrilled to be living bi-coastally, Laura happily drives between Los Angeles and Miami as often as she can. Her next CD due to be released in June of 2008, is a 12 song semi-classical CD titled The Prayer, sung in English, Italian, Latin and Hebrew. Laura believes she is living a really big fat blessed life.
