Norah Jones, Gavin DeGraw, Maroon 5, stuff like that. You get the jist.
I started taking piano lessons when I was six, after reading the amazing Goosebumps thriller Piano Lessons Can Be Murder. About 10 years later, after a friend suggested that I write a song and shove it in John Mayer's mail box in hopes that he would put it on his next album, I began writing my own music. What got me started writing, apart from the prospect of sneaking items into the Mayer's mailbox, was hearing Gavin DeGraw's song Chariot for the first time. I really connected with his music. The first piano phrase grabbed me, and then I heard his voice, and I was hooked. After hearing DeGraw's full CD, it occured to me "Hey, this guy plays piano and sings. I could do that!" And so I began writing. I'll admit, my first couple of songs were crap, but the more I experimented, the better it got. And so now, about a year and half after I first started writing, I have 6 solid original songs along with covers of songs by Gaivn DeGraw, Maroon 5, Marvin Gaye, and Sam Cooke. I've been playing around town a little bit, mostly at poetry jams, school stuff, small shows for friends, and a couple of open mic nights at the Acoustic Cafe and Las Vetas. I want to get out there a lot more this winter though. I'm actually up in Storrs CT now, so if your around, hopefully I'll see you in an audience sometime soon! Current Songs: Another Color, Rainbow, Didn't Choose It, She Knows,Constant Countdown, Shape Shifter, Twilight, Livin The Dream, Restless, Protector, The Inventor, Sun's Retreat, Control.
Yeah - I have about 3 videos of the Great DeGraw. I uploaded one and I'll upload the rest when I'm home. Here's one (my fave part is the very last second!):
