Sounds Like
Love affairs, Shipwrecks, Imaginary Worlds, Cups of Tea...
A voice and a cello- that's about it.
Intense, edgy, light hearted, melodramatic and honest songs brought to life by unusual cello playing that veers between moving melancholy airs, punchy rock riffing and slap bass. Songs tell of love affairs, shipwrecks, imaginary worlds, (and cups of tea).
Laura Victoria's music has strong pop tendancies but it's easy to tell that trad folk music has had a big impact. Laura is attracting attention for her songwriting, live performance style and fearlessly adventurous cello arrangements.
She has supported a diverse range of artists from The Portico Quartet to Eileen Rose and from Jon Allen to Dent May and His Magnificent Ukelele.
The debut EP 'Acting Up' is now available. Buy online and digital downloads coming VERY soon... In the meantime please send me a message or visit www.lauravictoriamusic.com if you'd like a copy.
"Absolutely unique - a brilliantly strange and haunting take on folk music."
Bob Fischer, BBC Radio Cleveland.
"Laura mixes hit- potential pop gems like Your Song is Sweeter with more traditional fare, a sense of humour and a rather charming line in shy stage banter". www.sandmanmagazine.co.uk
“Laura Hewison’s voice and cello work manages to eschew all manner of whimsy for a performance that is winningly edgy. Hewison’s songs don’t meander: they sally forth with purpose. A strident intent is at work here”. The Crack.
Extra Info:
I am available for session work (vocals and cello) and do string arrangements for tracks.
I teach songwriting and cello one to one as well as instrumental, singing and songwriting workshops.

As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; "Broken-roofed buildings" are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
Tune in and turn on. Episode 18 features the long awaited return of Ben Folke Thomas, from his hidden island lair to continue his evil plans to take over the world, an interview with, performance by, exclusive album track play, and give away, by noir-folkists 'Juniper Leaf', and many more goodly musical gifts to be bestowed upon you dear listener by the noble Lantern Players.
