Influences
Although I felt like such a girl, I got teary eyed when I saw Bonnie Raitt and, later, Melissa Etheridge in concert. I totally dig on anyone with soul and/or originality (and a surprising amount of country artists for being such a rocker now)--Heart, Prince(thanks Geezer, for really turning me on to deeper cuts), Nikka Costa, Dolly Parton, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Alanis Morrisette, Sheryl Crow, Ozzy, Simon & Garfunkel, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Anne Murray (don't laugh, I love her voice), Trisha Yearwood, Steve Miller Band, Indigo Girls, Creedence, Alabama, Etta James, and I'm sure I'm forgetting fifty million others!
Sounds Like
If Etta James, Melissa Etheridge, Bonnie Raitt, and Rod Stewart had a foursome, Laurel would be their illegitimate child.

‘Dynamic, powerful, captivating’ is how Laurel’s fans describe her show.
"This is one very talented singer who can do it all from soulful blues to ripping rock lyrics", says C.W. Ross, Senior Writer for Indie Music Stop. Touring regionally from Pensacola to Oklahoma City, this Lake Charles act packs a punch that is hard to forget.
With performances such as Port Arthur’s Janis Joplin Birthday Bash, opening for grammy winning funkster, Leon Russell and American Idol’s Kimberly Caldwell, performing on Houston and Atlanta festival stages for up to 200,000 attendees, Lake Charles’ prestigious Mardi Gras Krewe of Illusion Ball and securing the title of 2005 Lake Charles Rockoff Winner, Laurel could probably be best described as the show-stopping, “in your face”, soulful rocker this area has come to love. High energy shows, offering a variety of favorites as well as savvy originals, guarantee to get everyone moving, young and old. Covering songs from Tina Turner, Janis Joplin and the Doobie Brothers, to more contemporary artists like Melissa Etheridge, Maroon 5 and Gwen Stefani, this siren gives a commanding performance with a raspy power and sultry, sexy tones likened to female greats Stevie Nicks and Etta James.
Emerging from a gospel and blues background combined with theatre and vocal training from Florida State University’s School of Music, Laurel found her niche in rock’n’roll. Over the last decade, she has been fortunate to season her show with a number of talented musicians including guitarist, Kenny Sanders, winner of the Fender/Eric Clapton Scholarship, who went on to record and tour with nationally acclaimed producers such as Robert Margonleff (Stevie Wonder, Wilson Pickett, Devo, Robin Trower) and artists such as Della Reese. She currently tours with seasoned artists including guitarist, Barbara Hickey, bass player, Nick Nolden, and drummer, Mike Cash, who has shared stages with bands such as Confederate Railroad and Ricochet. “Some people are born with a God-given talent. Laurel was born with two. She has the gift of a beautiful voice and the gift of a natural stage presence… She provides more than just musical enjoyment, she provides all around entertainment.” says Dee Main, author of Soul of a Poet.
With tracks receiving airplay on internet radio, and currently promoted on national 2007 samplers from Oasis Cd and Infa-Red Records, Laurel has also been making waves with her debut original album, Sweet Insanity. Recently scouted for Hollywood label, A&R Select, and generating interest from North Carolina to Omaha for Pride celebrations with numerous television and radio performances across Louisiana and Texas, Laurel’s energetic style has been turning heads across the country and is sure to capture your attention!
"Aurora Borealis (northern lights) is a phenomenon I have had the pleasure to see recently while in Alaska. It is an awe inspiring heavenly glow. Reds, greens, blues and violets, that dance and whirl in the crystal clear northern night. As I encounter these energies in people, soul mates, I plan to recognize them… After attending a concert last night…I feel there is another phenomenon I have had the pleasure to see, Aurora Laurel"...
