Lauren Malyon grew up in small town Port Perry, ON, about an hour’s drive from Toronto. Originally trained as a classical virtuoso, she began violin lessons at age three, adding piano lessons three years later, all the while singing in choirs at church and school. She applied herself early on, excelling in both to the point that she auditioned successfully for the Young Artist Performance Academy at the Royal Conservatory. She became the protege of two prominent Toronto music teachers, and at the age of 13 she completed her ARCT practical examination for piano with the highest honors. Soon after, she recorded “Along the Road”, a compilation of some of her classical repertoire.
Despite the attention and praise her classical talent garnered, Lauren had been harboring a secret love for pop music, sparked by Chantal Kreviazuk’s recording of “Leaving on a Jet Plane”. To a curious and talented young girl this proved to be her gateway into new territory, and soon she began writing, performing and recording songs of her own. More discoveries followed when as a young teen Lauren became fascinated with acting, and Lauren landed some minor roles and voice work (Cool Whip!). A chance meeting with mutual friend allowed Lauren to record a three-song demo with Daniel Victor (Neverending White Lights) and open for a performance by NWL at Toronto’s Mod Club Theatre, sharing the stage with Raine Maida (Our Lady Peace) and Scott Anderson (Finger Eleven). NWL contributor Marco DiFelice took notice of Lauren’s remarkable talent and offered her a chance to collaborate with him musically and record three more original songs. She later returned the favor by performing violin and backing vocals on Marco’s solo album, “The Sun that Somewhat Sets”. Lauren continued to extend her network, performing with and alongside some hot up-and-comers including Naomi Striemer (S Records), Grand:PM (Curve Music), Ashes of Soma (Maple), Crush Luther (High 4 Records), and The Midway State (Interscope). Lauren also had a chance to record with Haydain Neale (Jacksoul) at Sony/BMG studios in Toronto. Her recorded material didn’t go unnoticed, either, warranting attention from Orange Records, and radio play of her song “Fairytale” on the Brave New Frontiers podcast.
At 21, Lauren can already be considered a veteran performer and experienced recording artist. Paul Mayer recently recognized a great opportunity in working with Lauren, and volunteered to take over production duties for her ready to be recorded album. They’ve enlisted the help of local jazz/fusion ensemble the Restless Age to act as session players for the recording and pre-production. Citing KT Tunstall, Regina Spektor and Feist as her main influences, Lauren’s upcoming album promises to be a charming, melodically rich collection of piano based pop songs laden with strings. Having already established personal contacts in film (Makeyouthink TV), radio (Astral Media), and advertising (Silent Joe), Lauren is a serious talent that certainly won’t go unnoticed.

De ce charme,
je rêve
d'un autre monde
ou sans armes
et durant une courte trêve
je regarderai ce monde
de mon" Ascension".
Masquant une douleur
pour votre simple bonheur.
En ce jour anniversaire
a quoi bon faire
la guerre.
Jouons de nos passions
pour apaiser cette colère
et levons nos verres
pour se pardonner, demain
d'être simplement humains
