Port Perry, Ont.- Lauren Malyon, age 21, from Port Perry is releasing a new pop CD, entitled “At My Window”. CIting KT Tunstall, Regina Spektor and Feist as her main influences, Lauren’s album brings forth a charming, melodically rich collection of vocal and piano based pop songs laden with strings.
When Lauren was asked about the new direction her CD is taking she had this to say, “There’s definitely a classical accent to it. That’s inevitable. But my hope is that it brings a fresh perspective to an otherwise mainstream catchy pop tune.”
Lauren has a long history in music. She began with violin lessons at age three, adding piano three years later. During this time she continued to excel while singing in choirs at church and school. Lauren attended the Young Artists Performance Academy at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto, and at the age of 13 completed her ARCT practical examination for piano with the highest honors. Soon after, she recorded “Along the Road”, a compilation of some of her classical repertoire.
In her teen years, Lauren developed a secret love for pop music, and soon began writing, performing and recording songs of her own. Lauren has recorded demos with Daniel Victor (Neverending White Lights), Marco DiFelice (Supergarage), and Haydain Neale (Jacksoul) and performed alongside Neverending White Lights, Raine Maida (Our Lady Peace), Scott Anderson (Finger Eleven) and many more.
Paul Mayer, a respected musician in his own right, recently recognized a great opportunity in working with Lauren and volunteered to take over production duties for her album. Paul feels strongly that this album has something for everyone “I think that the songs are immediate enough to grab you on the first listen, but hopefully there are enough points of interest to hear new little sounds and quirks on the 10th or 20th listen.” He was instrumental in enlisting the help of local jazz/fusion ensemble the Restless Age to act as session players for the recording as well as organizing the studio time with Subterranean Sound in downtown Toronto.
With the CDs just barely pressed, Lauren departed for the East Coast in May, to promote her album and tour with Make You Think TV (a leader in the creation of Character Education resources). In just 2 weeks, the tour reached over 3500 students in schools, communities and youth centres, covering 5000 kilometres and performing at 17 events.
Now, Lauren is home and excited to share her music with friends, family, and fans. Her CD “At My Window” is available for sale on her website, on iTunes, and also in retail stores such as HMV and Chapters/Indigo.

There's all the fresh youthful creative voice like a Regina Spektor or Feist in here too.
