LAURENT DOUMONT is a saxophone player, singer and songwriter who is at ease in various forms of music, with a natural inclination towards soul and jazz. He appeared with the "Homage to Jaco Pastorius", a project created by bassist MICHEL HATZIGEORGIOU with among others TOOTS THIELEMANS, STEPHANE GALLAND, ERIC LEGNINI... At that time, he started a free lance musician career, playing in several jazz and funk bands, a few gigs with FRED WESLEY being the highest point of this period.

In 1999 he went to New York in order to improve his musical skills and culture, where he took some classes with CHRIS POTTER. He finally spent two years there, playing and hanging out in jam sessions. When he came back, he played with BONEY M, The GIBSON BBROTHERS and GEORGE Mc CRAE during the "Disco Night Fever" tour. He seased that opportunity to found a horns section (together with OLIVIER BODSON and ALAIN PALIZEUL) which is now one the most sought after in Belgium and abroad.

Laurent is proud to have been a member of the DANIEL ROMEO's BAND from 1999 to 2008, playing saxophones, writing horns parts, song lyrics and occasionally singing.

From 2003 to 2005 he was part of the IMPROSESSIONS, an improvised music show based on standard songs played in different styles with improvised lyrics...

Laurent frequently plays the blues with MARC LELANGUE, in various formations.
He is sometimes a woogie behind BOOGIE BOY.

One of his best memories remains a gig with the late James BROWN in Antwerp in 2004.

Since 1998 Laurent has been leading his own Band, in various formations from quintet to septet featuring musicians such as DANIEL ROMEO, PATRICK DELTENRE, ADRIEN VERDERAME, VINCENT BRUYNINCK, BERT GIELEN, BILOU DONEUX, OTTI VAN DER WERF joined later by PALI and OLIVIER, his fellows blowers.

His current project is an acoustic soul-Jazz quartet, with LIONEL BEUVENS, SALVATORE LA ROCCA, and VINCENT BRUYNINCKX. This band plays new compositions from Laurent and some soul-jazz standards.

The album LAURENT DOUMONT SOUL QUINTET was released in 2001. About time for a new one...
