I play folk music. I love everything music but I love the voice above everything else. The voice that comes from a little place but en route to the outside world becomes larger than anything else. I love the way an instrument behind the voice makes music, and how sometimes, if you are really on the mark, you can make something that soars above music...but that takes time and a lot of love and is rare.
I have always played music, even though sometimes I didn't know that that is what I was doing! I was a hummer as a child, a garage parking tune maker, a pain in the ass non stop whistler and noise maker! (I make a terrible whistler), and of course, a very enthusiastic first to arrive at rehearsals choir girl.
Nowadays I make music (or the approximation of music in my mind). If I am not making it I am listening to it. I think the ipod is the best invention and I feel lonely without a good song to accompany me. Music allows honesty and honesty reminds me of who I am.
Ah, who I am. I live in Johannesburg- a bustling and eccentric city in South Africa where lots of exciting and sometimes scary things happen. In the last few years I have been on the stage and in studio. I released my first album, 'Unspoken' independently two years ago and have been hard at work on my second album which will be out within the next two months. This as yet unamed album (why are names so damn difficult?) has been a big part of my life for quite some time and I am so excited to share it with, well, with anyone who finds it.
I have been lucky to share the stage with some incredible musicians- Thabang, Lize, Brendan, Bruce and Ruben, and we have played many small and some big shows. We have opened for Joe Jackson and Rodriguez and I was one of the lucky last to play at New York's CBGB's.
Write me any time- I'd love to get to know you.
