Laurie has been writing original music and performing since 1979. She was a founding member of the "Post-New Age /Pre-Grunge" Seattle band, The Social Lites. Their 1984 debut EP, "Social Lies" was in heavy rotation on the radio. Laurie then went onto study jazz with local legend, Fred Radke.
Laurie spent most of the 1990's learning the healing arts. She became a Licensed Massage Therapist incorporating sound healing techniques into her practice.
In 2002, Laurie went on a songwriting course taught by Ray Davies ( of the Kinks) in Devon, England as part of the Arvon Foundation. While there, she met Singer-Songwriter John Dredge on the course and formed the acoustic duo- Dredge and Lyons. In 2004 they were recording and performing songs from their unreleased CD, "Tangled Net of Thorns" at acoustic clubs in England and the West Coast of America.. Laurie moved to her new home on Vashon Island in 2006 and began writing new material. She is showcasing her original songs and along with some favorite cover classics here on Vashon Island summer of 2008.

Hi Laurie, I'm in Edinburgh now. This morning I enjoyed a musical walk (in a group of about 15-20 people who are attending the fiddle festival)through Edinburgh with a great fiddle player/composer, Pete Clark. We stopped in a pub on the way and he played the group some tunes. It's bright and sunny here today but COLD and windy! BRR! Tonight is the grand concert and Portland's own Kevin Burke is the headliner. I know he will be well-received. Tomorrow more Fiddle Festival (attending a workshop to learn a Finnish fiddle tune and there will be many more recitals and a final huge session) and then early Monday morning, I catch the train to London. Hope all is well with you! Marjorie
We've written a few together!! Less you not forget. But yes we should do something new! I've been messing around on the guitar lately, feeling inspired! ....
Hi Laurie, I am on holiday in Ennis Ireland at the moment. There's a trad music festival going, with lots of great musicians all over the place! I am going to try to join a session today, I think. Gotta go change the strings on my violin. I just got here yesterday at the crack of dawn so I'm still a bit discombobulated-- wide awake one second and nodding off the next. Luckily, there are many good cafes here with great espresso drinks.... The festival ends Monday night, and I leave Wed at noon for Scotland for 12 days, (including the Edinburgh fiddle festival the weekend before Thanksgiving), then to London for the last 4 days, flying home the day after Thanksgiving. So far it's a wonderful trip musically but it's windy and rainy. Luckily it isn't bitterly cold, just cool. It was great to hear from you. Cheers, Marjorie
