About me: I was founded in 1954,By "Justice of Peace"Mr.J.J.Swetnam. From 1954 to 1969,Mr.Swetnam Married 21 THOUSAND couples. Thats how He got the name "Marrying Sam".In 1966 Mrs.Lavern Harris started working here as Mr.Swetnam secretary.In 1973 when "Marrying Sam"Retired. Mrs.Harris aquired me.In the Last 50 plus years. I've seen & met Thousands of couples,on their Wedding Day.Yes it's true not all make it. BUT I have many Couples that have made it. Some comeback and visit,just to say hello.Others to renew their wedding vows.Some every Year! Some after a few years,Had a couple that renewed their vows after 40 years just a while back.I have folks that come to me because their Parents or Grand-Parents where married here.I have people tell me that I got married here, From all over the world.One family 4 generations I'm proud to say were happy to come back for their Wedding Day. I try to be a special place for all who enter my doors. Some Folks still may say,It's Quick and Easy.It may be,But the Longest part of the Marriage comes after the ceremony
OH MY GOSH!! My daddy and step-mom got married here and my mom was re-married here too! Not to mention my anuties and loads of friends!! Lavern's Wedding Chapel is a true landmark for Miami,OK. and it's chulked full of memories for tons of people!! Anyone wanting an awesome but, some what small wedding should go to Lavern's!! The paster there is soo great, he makes you forget all about the butterflys in your tummy! lol
Thank you for such a wonderful wedding ceremony! It is a memory that will last forever for us! We wouldnt have done it any different. The chapel setting was perfect. You guys are so kind and we couldnt have asked for more. Again, thank you!
Hey this is cool to see the ol place in cyberspace. I grew up there in Miami and have had quite a few people I know get married there over the years. One of those people even being my mom. A true piece of History.
