Although born in Texas and raised in Atlanta until 7 years old, LaWanda Michelle considers Brooklyn, NY her home. It was in Brooklyn that she developed her musical tastes and interests and discovered her passion for music. As an avid lover of all genres of music ranging from opera to reggae, R&B and hip-hop, LaWanda’s eclectic musical taste can be heard in her music. Her unique style can be noted as "hip-hop in a skirt," which adds an extra dimension to her artistry. LaWanda provides a combination of mellow vocals, direct and sassy lyrics, and deep elements of soul, hip-hop, and R&B – which can be heard over heavy hitting tracks. Lawanda is quick to point out that everything she listens to has inspired her musically in some way. “I write from a place of experience. I draw from any and everything around me…everything I see, I hear, my own personal experiences and those of others, it can all be heard and felt in my music,” she says.
Lawanda Michelle’s musical ambitions continue to abound daily and she will stop at nothing to make sure her voice is heard and her music reaches the masses.
