Après des études au conservatoire de Toulouse, Paul Lay entre au CNSM de Paris au sein du département Jazz et Musiques Improvisées et travaille notamment avec Hervé Sellin, François Thèberge, Glenn Ferris et Dre Paellemearts. Il obtient son diplôme de fin d'études supérieures (DFS) en 2006. Il poursuit le cycle de perfectionnement du CNSM de Paris en étroite collaboration avec Ricardo del Fra.
Il est lauréat de plusieurs concours internationaux dont le Concours International Piano-Jazz de Moscou en 2005(3ème prix), le Concours International Piano-Jazz Martial Solal en 2006 (finaliste -5ème prix), le Concours International de piano jazz de Montreux en 2007 (finaliste). En 2007, il est lauréat de la Fondation Meyer et du Mécénat Musical Société Générale. Il est également parrainé par Cultures France (AFAA) et à ce titre figure dans leur programme "Jazz Primeur".
Il se produit dans différentes formations en France, en Europe et en Amérique du Nord, notamment dans les festivals d'Annecy, Biarritz, Jazz à la Villette, à l'Institut Français de Berlin, à l'IAJE à New York, et effectue une tournée en Russie en 2008 en récital solo.
Toujours par le biais de Culturesfrance, iL effectue une tournée solo et trio de 14 concerts en Mai 2008 au Pérou, Mexique, Trinité et Tobago, République dominicaine.
Il vient de remporter Le 1er PRIX Soliste du Concours de Jazz de la Défense le 30 juin 2008 au sein de son groupe Into the lines trio.

Prize-winner of several international competitions, he won the third prize at the International Piano-Jazz Competition in Moscow in 2005, the fifth prize (final) at the Martial Solal International Piano-Jazz Competition in 2006 and was finalist at the International Piano-Jazz Competition in Montreux in 2007. He obtains a scholarship from the Fondation Meyer and from Mécénat Musical Société Gnrale in 2007. He is also sponsored by Cultures France (AFAA) and is part of their programme "Jazz Primeur".
He performs in varied musical groups and in solo in France, Europe and Northern America, and in the festivals of Annecy, Biarritz, Jazz la Villette (Paris), as well as at the Berlin French Institute, the IAJE in New York. He is also on tour in Russia in solo in 2008.

The 31th edition of Jazz Hoeilaart: Join the Contest!

If you are an ambitious jazzgroup with young musicians you can inscribe for the Jazz Hoeilaart Contest 2009 until the 15th of may. The festival, which is organised by Muziekmozaïek in collaboration with vzw De Rand, will take place from the 24th until the 26th of September and is intended for young international Jazz talent.
The 30-years old festival has its reputation for bringing international talent into the spotlights. Many known artists, such as Rosario Guiliani, Michiel Borstlap, Magnus Lindgren, Alexi Tuomarila and Robin Verheyen were on stage at this international contest.
The 31st edition of the contest will open on Thursday the 24th of September 2009. Until the 26th of September six finalists will perform in a contest-formula. Each evening will close with performances of Jack Van Poll/ Jef Neve/ Bart Van Caeneghem/ Ewout Pierreux (24/09), Hijaz (25/09), en Cintia Rodriguez (26/09). Ambitious young musicians can inscribe for the contest-section until the 15th of May 2009.
