Sofia Lazopoulou

Bio:

Sofia Lazopoulou is originally from Greece. Her talent and love for singing began to show at a very early age (she was a soloist at her school's choir, starred in many musical production shows). She has been performing as a professional vocalist since 1993. After having extensive private vocal training for many years (she is the protege' of the legendary Greek voice teacher/jazz singer Mrs.Vicky Almazidou who has always been and continues to be Sofia 's mentor and inspiration) and having a certificate in Jazz Vocal Performance from the "Sychrono Conservatory Of Thessaloniki"Greece -Member of the European Association Of Music Academies- she continued her musical education by attending BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC under a Berklee scholarship. (G.P.A 3.9) At Berklee, she had the privilege to study with other exceptional voice instructors such as Kathryn Wright, Lisa Thorson, Kudisan Kai, Gabrielle Goodman, Sharon Brown, Ann Dolan, Didi Stewart and take workshops with the amazing Patti Austin, Carla Cook etc. Her studies focused on Jazz Vocal Performance,Vocal Pedagogy,classical and contemporary vocal training etc. At that time,she permanently moved to the States. During her career,Sofia performed jazz,blues,r & b,latin, at numerous hotels such as the "Hyatt Regency Hotel and Casino",resorts"Sani Beach Hotel and Resort",jazz clubs such as "Malt and Jazz",restaurants,private functions, with her own band and trio and also gave performances at vocal competitions. In 2001,she took part in the European vocal competition "SARANDEV"where she was awarded with the 1st prize for "BEST VOCALIST"out of 72 contestants. It was the first time she sang in a vocal competition. In 2002,she entered the international vocal competition "DISCOVERY" where she was awarded with the second prize,out of 20 countries. Sofia released her personal cd album in 2002,entitled "Journey to a dream",in which she included her own original compositions. She is also a dedicated voice teacher -member of the National Association Of Teachers Of Singing- proudly carrying the legacy of her own masterful voice teachers. Sofia is considered to be one of a few,most promising vocalists,with a luxurious, silky voice, who s true passion for singing has allowed her to conquer outstanding musical achievements.
