Beatles, The Who, Grifters, Guided By Voices (early stuff), Waylon Jennings, Bob Dylan, old blues (Howlin'Wolf, Muddy Waters, John Hurt, etc., John Prine. Actually there are to many to try and name. Basically any music that has originality and comes from the soul.
I'm from Inverness, Mississippi. A beautiful town. I'm thirty-one years old and have been playing in rock 'n' roll, blues, and country bands since I was twelve. Good country (Waylon, Johnny Cash, John Prine, etc.) not all this new country crap. The name of my current band is Jon Boat and the Trollin' Motors. I play guitar and sing, Wade Loper plays bass and sings, and Justin Jefcoat plays drums. My cousin Brantley Catlette plays guitar and sings whenever he comes home from L.A. Brantley and I have played together since the first days of our music careers. We write songs independently and sometimes we collaborate. As the Moonshiners we put out an album of all original songs in 1998. In 2002 I went to Belgium and played with a blues band. I have been back several times since then to play with a friend's blues band over there. It's always a blast. I work as a technician for the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station. It is the largest research station of its kind in the world. I work in the rice weed control department. It is a great job. Playing music is my passion and I plan to continue for the rest of my life.
