Tom Gordon's Interests
|
| General | Creating graphics, analog and digital. Fruit-branded computers. Science and science fiction -- especially of that newfangled variant that posits humanity building a godlike AI, or finally attaining some kind of utopian leisure society. Center-right, running-dog capitalist politics and Western pop culture. | | Music | No genre in particular -- I'm remarkably unsophisticated, and still somewhat mired in the late eighties/mid-nineties. Metal (Metallica, Def Leppard), punk (Green Day), grunge (Alice in Chains), electronic (Depeche Mode, ZIA), industrial (Ministry, NIN), pop rock (U2), alternative unclassifiable whatevers (Evanescence, Killers, Vaux), weird avant-grade stuff (Mr. Bungle) and showtunes. (Rap, on the other hand, is teh suxX0r.) | | Movies | Generally, if there's a spaceship, or an alien, or an angsty wizard, or a resourceful whip-brandishing archeologist, or lots of gratuituous swordplay/special effects/nudity in any given bit of celluloid -- the odds are excellent that I probably enjoy the bejeebus out of it.
I'm sorry. That's just how it is. | | Television | I loved "Firefly" -- that is, before it was canceled to make way for oh-so-necessary reality-themed garbage. Historical serial-dramas on HBO, such as "Rome" and "Carnivale". "Lost" is okay too, once you assume the Dharma Initiative island has an Infinite Improbability Generator running full-blast. And "Heroes", natch. I tend to prefer movies, though. | | Books | Ye gods, where to begin? Varley's Eight Worlds series. Leiber's tales of Nehwon and Lankhmar. Larry Niven's Known Space and his collaborations with Pournelle. And virtually everything written by Robert Heinlein, Douglas Adams, Alice Rosenbaum and J.K. Rowling. Not a complete list, by any means! | | Heroes | Presumably the same people Who I'd Like To Meet (see above). Unless you're talking the edible sandwich variant (in which case it'd have to be chicken parmigiana) or the comic-book themed TV program (either Nathan or Hiro). |

Tom Gordon's Blurbs |
About me:
Gleeful defiler of tree flesh. Arranger of pixels and words, big and small. Rabid starry-eyed pseudo-intellectual, pining for the Singularity and leaving this overcrowded ball of rock behind. Et cetera, et cetera. You can find out far more about me than you never wanted to know at my art/writing/animation/games-filled website, Free Lunch Studios (established 1996!) and my overly-verbose Blother Blog.

Who I'd like to meet:
Just off the top of my head: Coop, Bob Heinlein, Frank Frazetta, Ayn Rand, John Varley, Vernor Vinge. If I sat here for an hour there'd easily be dozens more. And then I'd probably whilst away another hour making a list of all the things I'd do if I had a billion dollars, or a time machine. Pleh.
