About me:
The Lake County Agricultural & Horticultural Society is dedicated to expanding domestic (yes, that means "civilian") knowledge and experiences among the Civil War living history hobby. We hope to make it easier for people to keep in mind that our soldiers were civilians FIRST, became soldiers only out of necessity -- and the fortunate lived to become civilians once more!
We will always endeavor to cultivate a welcoming spirit of hospitality and interactive public education. And yes, WE AS REENACTORS are public, too!
___________________________
ANNOUNCING the THIRD ANNUAL 1863 SUMMER FAIR, coming to Wauconda Civil War Days on July 11 & 12, 2009. This event will portray July 11 & 12, 1863 as it would have been experienced at a summertime agricultural exhibition in Libertyville, Illinois, at the farm of the LCAHS president, Roswell French. As a Society event, we encourage exhibitors to bring their best flowers, fruits and vegetables, livestock and eggs, comb honey, fancy work and items of domestic manfacture for exhibit and sale to the general public.
Let us prove to our gallant citizen-soldiers that their homes and farms still prosper, even under the the shadow of this odious rebellion. Further, let us remind our countrymen that foul treason can neither besmirch our pride, foul our industry nor dim our pride in this great united land.
ANNOUNCING -- The FARM ECONOMIST -- The Journal of the Lake County Ag. & Hort. Society. A free publication providing the best in regional (that's northern Illinois)information formulated for the living history hobby. Published at least twice yearly in Adobe, and focused on the issues facing the 1860's citzen of Lake County, Illinois. Great stuff! And so conveniently portable! The back issues of Volume I & II are available by emailing the editor; try lcagnhortsociety@gmail.com.
Best ever,
D. B. Jarrett, Corresponding Sectretary
