LEAH SALOMAA is a Toronto based singer and performer. Named in CHATELAINE MAGAZINE as one of Canada's leading children's performers, she has released three family oriented cds : "I LIKE TO RISE", "FATHER SUN and MOTHER MOON", and the brand new holiday CD: "UNDER A WINTER STAR".
Here is a review of this cd from CITY PARENT:
Leah Salomaa: Under a Winter Star — Toronto’s Salomaa specializes in recordings aimed at families, not just kids. I was able to test out her new holiday CD in the perfect setting: a weekend in a house overflowing with three generations. The kids perked up for her lively versions of “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells” and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” I think her first track, “The Holly and the Ivy,” is one of the purest versions of that song I’ve heard. But the hands-down favourite was the Welsh traditional tune “All Through the Night,” which Salomaa performs with simple, sweet vocals and lush harmonies. If you’re in need of a new holiday record like we were, this one is the perfect choice.
Leah's recordings have been heard in North America, Europe, and Australia, They are distributed online by: Fire the Imagination, and are also available at cdbaby.
She has performed Family concerts on many stages throughout Canada such as: Hillside Folk Festival, The Kortright Centre,
Waldorf Schools, Montessori Schools, Ontario Early Years centres, and
Toronto District School Board Schools, and Libraries.
Leah has sung on numerous recordings, jingles, and television & movie soundtracks, including the popular children's cartoon "Jane and the Dragon". and the debut cd of "Sho Mo and the Monkey Bunch".
As a composer, her music has been featured in film, television and radio. Her original song "Little Acorn"(from Father Sun, and Mother Moon) recieved an honourable mention in the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals's 2008 "Songs from the Heart" competion.
She still works closely with children through teaching. In 2006 she co-founded "Goddess Girls"
and "Tribal Children" with Energy Healer, Sandra Moon Dancer. Together they run exciting and innovative Circles and Camps
from the "Centre of Circlewisdom"
