As the daughter of one of the most influential artists in music history, Leah Wood, daughter of the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, is a talented young woman who has followed her fathers steps into both the worlds of music and art.
At 18 Leah was snapped up by top model agency Models One, fronting campaigns such as Burberry, Monsoon and Babyliss. Now signed to Select Model Management Leah is actively pursuing her modelling career in 2008. Fashion has always been a huge influence to Leah, “…being brought up in my family I’ve seen some crazy fashion trends come and go… Along the way I’ve picked them up and put them into my own style, it’s wonderful looking through old picture of my parents and thinking “Wow! You really looked like That!”’
Style icons Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Bridget Bardot and Grace Kelly inspire Leah. Now a happy newlywed she likes nothing more than a night in with husband Jack in front of a good classic movie like Casablanca, or a Frank Sinatra and Ginger Rogers musical.
Musically, Leah grew up listening to the likes of Marvin Gaye, Ella Fitzgerald, Motown, Billie Holliday and Prince “…music was always played throughout the house from late at night ‘til the early hours, when the sun was just rising.” As a recording artist Leah has explored all genres of music from pop to blues and reggae, and released music in the dance genre. At 29 years of age Leah Wood has travelled the world and experienced differing cultures, all of which have left their mark and shaped her into the person she is today. Her debut single “Contact High” brought together all these influences and manifested Leah’s vibrant and fun-loving spirit. Achieving intense critical acclaim and reaching the number 2 club-chart position in Music Week, Leah was thrilled with the impact this summery dance track had on club land. Leah has also released her follow up single ‘Orbit’ which features remixes by Artful Dodger on Wooden Records.
Throughout 2006 Leah combined both modelling and singing while she worked as brand ambassador for Aussie Hair Care, performing with her band at various high profile media events to launch products.
Leah is continuing to pursue several other interests that are close to her heart; actively involved in both Breakthrough for Breast Cancer and Comic Relief. In January 2007 Leah took part in the filming of the Comic Relief Music Video with Girls Aloud and Sugababes.
In June 2008 Leah married her long-term partner Jack MacDonald in a lavish ceremony at Southwark Cathedral, followed by a celebrity studded reception at her parents home in Kingston.
In addition to music and modelling, art also features heavily in Leah’s life. Having grown up in a family steeped in art, Leah studied Fine Art at Chelsea Art School in 2007. “Art has always been a part of my life. I grew up watching my family paint and so it was always second nature to me. I love expressing myself through my work and know alongside music, it will always be part of me.”
