LEANNE DOUGLAS’s musical journey has included 16 years in Nashville – but now she’s back home in Australia and her star is ready to shine.
Leanne was born on the east coast of New South Wales into a musical family. Her father was a talented highland piper, but it was the electric guitar that captured Leanne’s young imagination, particularly the instrumental sounds of Duane Eddy, The Ventures and especially Hank Marvin of The Shadows.
By the age of 15, Leanne was singing and playing professionally. She became the first female artist to win the coveted Star Maker award, later winning the prestigious Australian Country Music Golden Guitar Award for Best New Talent with "Don't It Make You Wanna Cry," one of her own compositions.
Relocating to Nashville, Tennessee (Music City USA), Leanne formed a band that featured her growing talent as a lead vocalist and lead guitarist, enjoying great success during her time there. Her first solo CD included ten instrumentals penned by Leanne, along with her three favourite Hank Marvin tunes. Glowing reviews from respected publications soon followed:
“…Leanne Douglas is quite a guitarist, with a liquid style that's very emotional… Our Spirit Land (Dreamtime) is a moving and rich scenic exploration of the outback… the lead guitar is pristine and beautiful…” Reverb Central U.S.A. - Phil Dirt
”… Leanne not only has an amazing touch on electric guitar but she's a gifted composer…” 20th Century Guitar Magazine U.S.A. - Robert Silverstein This album has been renamed and repackaged for Australian release in October 2005.
Leanne’s band was in great demand, playing many festivals and clubs around the South-Eastern United States. Highlights included concerts at Graceland, Elvis Presley's International Fan Club Show, and the grand opening of Elvis Presley's Memphis restaurant on legendary Beale Street. Hallmark Guitars invited Leanne to perform and showcase their unique instruments at the 2004 NAMM show in Nashville, where luthier Joe Hall autographed the guitar Leanne chose to play and presented it to her there.
Now the call of home has brought her back, and it’s time for Australian audiences to catch up with the musical gifts of Leanne Douglas. This October, her acclaimed instrumental CD, My Yellow Guitar will be released in Australia along with Under The Covers, a new vocal album produced in Nashville, featuring Leanne’s favourite classic and contemporary country songs.
Leanne’s live show is packed with variety and energy. She combines her show with favourite songs like Rose Garden, Harper Valley PTA and others from her new album, along with her superb guitar playing. She does tunes like Guitar Boogie, Apache, and then closes her show with the all time crowd pleaser Orange Blossom Special, done on both guitar and fiddle! Then she leaves the audiences crying out for more with a bluegrass medley on fiddle. There is no other artist who compares to Leanne’s talent and scope of variety, not to mention her professionalism and warm personality.
LEANNE DOUGLAS – a new star in the Southern skies!
