LEAP DAY:
It took Koen Roozen (Flamborough Head) almost two years to find the right musicians for a new Dutch symphoband.
In 2007 Koen met Derk Evert Waalkens who, together with Hans Gerritse (Nice Beaver), had released a terrific album called " Somateria Spectabilis " a short while before, under the name of King Eider.
Derk Evert, at the time, was also in search of fellow-sympho musicians. Their noses faced the same direction and shortly after, vocalist Jos Harteveld (Pink Floyd Project) joined them.
In September 2007 Koen and Derk Evert thought about giving a concert at Progfarm 2007 under the name of King Eider. Hans Gerritse also liked the idea and decided to join in on this, as did Nice Beaver bass player Peter Stel. It appeared to be necessary to get another keyboard player in order to play King Eider's music in a live setup. Koen knew Gert van Engelenburg already because they're living in the same village and he knew of Gert's taste for prog, so Gert was in as well.
After the Progfarm gig Hans Gerritse left again, leaving the other five musicians without a guitarplayer and a bandname.
Finally Eddie Mulder ( Trion, Pink Floyd Project, ex-Flamborough Head ) was being asked on guitars and he also decided to join the band.
On the 29th of February 2008, these gentlemen have decided to name the band Leap Day.
In october 2008 the demo CD was released. At the moment they are recording their debut CD. The release date will be probably may 2009.

Na bijna twee jaar zoeken is het Koen Roozen (drummer Flamborough Head) eindelijk gelukt om een aantal geschikte muzikanten bijeen te krijgen om een nieuwe Nederlandse symfoband op te richten.
In 2007 kwam Koen in contact met Derk-Evert Waalkens die recentelijk, samen met Hans Gerritse (Nice Beaver), onder de naam King Eider, het voortreffelijke album “Somateria Spectabilis” had uitgebracht.
Ook Derk-Evert was op zoek naar mede-symfomuzikanten. De neuzen stonden direct dezelfde kant uit en kort daarop werd zanger Jos Harteveld (Pink Floyd Project) aan de band in oprichting toegevoegd.
In september 2007 kregen Koen en Derk-Evert het idee om op Progfarm 2007 een optreden te geven onder de naam King Eider waarbij een half uur live muziek werd gespeeld van de cd “Somateria Spectabilis”. Hans Gerritse was direct enthousiast en besloot mee te werken. Ook Nice Beaver bassist Peter Stel deed mee.
Omdat de cd van King Eider in eerste instantie puur op projectmatige basis is gemaakt, zonder direct live te gaan spelen, bleek het nodig een tweede toetsenist te banaderen. Koen kende dorpsgenoot en progliefhebber Gert van Engelenburg die muziek gecomponeerd heeft voor een aantal jeugdtheatervoorstellingen en deze wilde ook meewerken.
Omdat Hans Gerritse na Progfarm besloot dat het live gaan van King Eider eenmalig was, zaten de vijf musici zonder gitarist en zonder naam.
Koen heeft Eddie Mulder (Trion, Pink Floyd Project, ex-Flamborough Head) benaderd en deze wilde graag meewerken. Op 29 februari 2008 hebben de heren gezamenlijk besloten om de band de naam Leap Day te geven.
In oktober 2008 kwam de demo CD uit. Inmiddels zijn de opnames voor het debuutalbum in volle gang. De release van deze CD staat gepland voor mei 2009. De CD zal worden uitgebracht door het OSKAR label.

I know of several other Dutch contemporary prog groups, I reviewed the albums of some of them for usaprogmusic.com , or the works or some were also submitted for the jury's listening, or even both, but this one has been the best coming from the Netherlands so far.
