LEAVING JUNEAU WILL BE CALLING IT QUITS AT THE END OF JUNE '06
Leaving Juneau is a constant evolution. With roots beginning in 2002, the gang of four that make up Leaving Juneau have been writing and playing music with a passion that has set them up for continued success.
Jeff had a stint fronting and writing for local emo-rock act Sierra in 2003/04. Yup, black hair and all. The writing progress began with solo songs turned into full band pieces, and continued into writing as a full band. Once Sierra disbanded (due to repeated instances of sucking at music), Jeff decided to write, record, and play under the moniker 'Leaving Juneau' - a metaphor for music's ability to remove oneself from life's sometimes cold but true hardships. Plus, it sounds cool.
Following a few successful local solo shows, Jeff hooked up with Nick Bryant (ex-Sierra drummer) and Adam Dingle (ex-Stillframe bassist) to fill out the Leaving Juneau sound. The trio headed into the studio in the summer of 2005 and recorded their debut full length, titled Get Out Of the Weather. A flowing combination of laid-back alt-folk tunes and upbeat indie tracks, Get Out Of the Weather captures the diversity of Leaving Juneau's sound and was released independently in December 2005.
Once the record was released, the trio that was Leaving Juneau needed to quench their constant thirst for musical progression and change. While this could have been achieved by many means (such as wearing killer matching outfits and so forth), they made the wiser choice to add a 4th member on keyboards one Olga Messinis. Overlooking her Greek heritage, the next couple of months were spent hidden in the studio, writing new parts for old songs to accommodate the addition.
Armed now with 4 members, upbeat (perhaps even dancy) new songs, and the combined demeanor of a 6-year old, Leaving Juneau is set to pound the pavement and get their catchy indie-pop tunes out to as many ears as possible. A mini West Coast tour is being booked for late spring, 2006, and a major cross Canada tour is in the works for fall 2006. A new EP is being discussed as well, which promises to be leaps and bounds from the solid Get Out of the Weather. So keep your eyes and ears peeled! Or else well totally come to your house and fight you.
We're serious.
