For those of you who are unfamiliar with Leda’s Charm, here’s who we are:
About 4 and a half years ago, Jaime Horrigan took a hot date (yes, that’s me) over to his parents’ house. They all ate, drank, and were merry. Then they retired to the living room and began to create music. Jaime played the bass, his mother Dorothy Carpenter played the tambourine, her husband Don Carlson played the guitar, and Julie Cymek sang. The jazzy bluesy warmth of the group filled the room and their hearts. This was the beginning of Leda’s Charm.
For the next few years, we played at numerous local venues, including Andy's in Chestertown and 49 West in Annapolis--two wonderful spots for live music. We played several awards banquets for teachers, and even took a fabulous trip up to Owego, NY to play Riverfest, a beautiful festival that celebrates music and art. (Yes, I really mean Owego, not Oswego! It's a magical place...you should check it out)
Many of you know that Don was diagnosed with incurable cancer about ten months ago. Don has been fighting and fighting, but the cancer got the best of him. On Saturday July 28, we lost our Donny. Although we will miss him every day that passes, we rejoice at the fact that his suffering is over.
Don is a beautiful, loving, honest, talented, and creative person. He has accomplished so much in only one short lifetime. On top of being a musician, he was also an avid kayaker, wood sculptor, kitchen designer, loving husband, father, and grandfather.
If you’re interested in helping out, you can buy our CD entitled Parker’s Moon. If you’d like to purchase one and have it mailed to you, please send an email to Dorothy at dacfeb@dmv.com. CDs are also available at Springriver Canoe and Kayak in Eastport, 49 West Café and Acousticopia in Annapolis, Hayden’s Alley Café in Centreville and Artists’ Gallery in Chestertown. (His sculpture can also be viewed and purchased at this gallery...his work is really breathtaking.)
Thanks to all who have supported us. Leda’s Charm has been a celebration of music, family, and love, and we are all grateful for getting to enjoy the rare experience.
Good-bye, sweet Leda. Rest peacefully, sweet Donny. You are loved.
His smile can fill the room and reach the neighbors'.
His sculpture illustrates harmony and
His music is natural and smooth.
With water he feel balance and
With family feels movement.
He creates and connects
He encourages and loves to love.
He makes strangers feel like family and
vegetables taste like candy.
He gives, he senses,
He watches us from the moon
He painlessly lives from now until forever.
