Led to Sea is the solo project of violist/violinist/composer L. Alex Guy. She’s often joined by percussionist extraordinaire Saba Angel
How did this all start? Well....
In 2005, Alex and Saba met in a dusty old bike shop in New Mexico and have been playing together ever since. Saba’s amazing percussive beats were the perfect addition to Alex’s eerie, melodic and experimental tunes for viola and voice. They first collaborated on a performance piece with an aerial dancer, and quickly expanded their work to include improvisation and indie/classical/pop pieces.
Alex has also been a member of the Degenerate Art Ensemble (of Seattle), an experimental-punk-grove orchestra/theater extravaganza for over five years, and has toured throughout the U.S. and Europe with DAE as well as with musicians such as Jason Webley, Danny Barnes and Laura Viers. You can also hear her viola and violin stylings on the records of numerous indie and experimental bands including Xiu Xiu, the Dead Science, The Pharmacy and Parenthetical Girls.
Alex also likes to compose for theater and dance performances. Some of the recent highlights include: a solo score (for violin) for Ibsen’s ’Enemy of the people,’ a score for viola, violin and bass drum to accompany modern dance piece ’Entry by Entrance; music for Wise Fool NM’s Circus Luminous (where she and Saba met); musical scores for the SCCC production of the Laramie Project, and Strawberry Theater Workshop’s productions of This Land: Woodie Guthrie.
Hiya, Hope you are well. Any plans to return to the UK soon? I really enjoyed your set with Laura in Birmingham last year and are still playing the album most weeks!! Take care. Colin
Hello, I just got your cd last week I LOVE IT!!!! it is so beautiful, led to sea is my favorite & hitch ... god your voice in that song make me happy; it is a really great album.
Is the name of the band Led to Sea or Liz Alex Guy, 'cause when I put the CD into my computer the artist of the album was written as Liz Alex Guy but I keep finding Led to Sea even in Lastfm, so I am not sure & ... one more thing, which genre you consider yourself? thanks.
Merry belated Christmas & I hope you have a happy new year!
