Animals, music -- I play harp and guitar, and dabble in banjo -- and alternative therapies. I'm a certified Reiki Master and have seen and felt it do some amazing things; I'm also a hospital-certified harp practitioner, and have seen the power of music as a healing tool firsthand.
Music
My two big loves are medieval and New Age music -- sometimes they're not all that far apart. Since I'm interested in music as a means of bringing healing, I'm also interested in music written for healing (think Steven Halpern, among others) and research on sound and its effects on people, animals, plants -- everything.
I also love bagpipe music and drumming.
Some of my favorite artists are Peter Kater, R. Carlos Nakai, David Arkenstone, Nancy Rumbel, Eric Tingstad, Spencer Brewer, Isao Tomita, Yanni, Kitaro, Enya, Suzanne Ciani, Gandalf, and Michael Jones.
Movies
The Wizard of Oz, E.T., the Batman movies, the Star Wars movies, LOTR, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean. . . . On the more serious side, An Inconvenient Truth, The Day After Tomorrow.
Books
This will require some thought, since my list is pretty long. We can start with LOTR.
About me: Crazy about animals all my life, I've been a writer and musician since childhood and evolved as an environmentalist. My books and stories look at what we're doing to the Earth and to its creatures, as well as what we do to each other -- and also explore the paranormal.
My novel A DREAM OF DROWNED HOLLOW won Andre Norton's Gryphon Award for its tale of a young woman with an uncanny talent who must fight to save her Ozarks home from destruction.
My story collection KLASSIC KOALAS: ANCIENT ABORIGINAL TALES IN NEW RETELLINGS introduces children and adults to the folktales of the Australian Aboriginal people. These stories, mostly about the koala, are a rich source of insights into the Aboriginal world of the Dreamtime, when all things were changeable and dreams could, and did, become reality.
All royalties from KLASSIC KOALAS: ANCIENT ABORIGINAL TALES IN NEW RETELLINGS go to the Australian Wildlife Hospital, a major project of Wildlife Warriors Worldwide that was founded in memory of Steve Irwin's mother Lyn.
