| Influences | Life, things i've been through and learned, beauty, happiness, sadness, life in Thurrock, moments when my guitar sounds like it's expressing moods i can't describe (i hope i don't sound cocky lol), people i admire, people who piss me off (for some reason lyrics tend to flow when they're ripping into someone lol), people i loved who passed away (most notably my dad aka "the Great Man"), songwriters who mean it, songs that make me cry cos they're so fucking good, long nights with my closest friends, Jamesons and various real ales, times when i get the giggles, Dan's impressions, the very long journey that led to me being as strong and happy as i am now, injustice and general wrongness, escapism, spaceyness, my long list of crushes, my travels, anyone who has praised or encouraged me in anyway, people who never encourage me who make me want to prove them wrong etc etc...... the following bands have been my most important influences... the Smashing Pumpkins, Mogwai, Pavement, Led Zeppelin, Nick Drake, Lemonjelly, My Bloody Valentine, Six by Seven, the Pixies, Belle and Sebastian, Gomez, John Martyn, Modest Mouse, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, the Cure... i would also like to mention some local bands i've been very happy to see and meet lately and who i seem to keep listening to, namely Set Adrift, Deferred Success, Clare Blackman, Ed Rome, Moody McPick, Scratton Road, The Big, Plays for Polly, Dead Clown Society, Fashoda Crisis, Kunt and the Gang, The Furious Horde... i hope i'm not forgetting anybody :) |
