About Lee Fortune...
Music has been a part of Lee Fortune's life since he can remember. Growing up in a Christian home Lee was surrounded by music, more specifically, gospel music. Lee's great-grandparents are published songwriters in the Sacred Harp style of music; his grandparents used to have “front porch pickin's” often and Lee can't remember a time that his grandfather wasn't teaching himself to play a new instrument. His mother also was very musical as she has served as church pianist on several occasions throughout the years. It's no wonder that Lee has had an interest in music since early childhood. This interest in music grew into a love for music as Lee got older. As a young teenager, Lee became a featured vocalist in his church's youth and adult choirs as well as his high school's choral ensemble. Upon his high school graduation, the decision was made for Lee to pursue music at a higher level as he received a scholarship to Troy University and enrolled in their nationally renowned music program. While receiving his education, Lee also gained invaluable experience as a performer. Lee had several prominent roles in musical theater productions, was a featured soloist in multiple choral productions, was a featured vocal and instrumental soloist at several half time and post game shows during the university's football games and became a classically trained vocalist performing opera and folk songs in 4 different languages! It was during his time at college that Lee truly came to love southern gospel music. Lee met a friend during his first semester that introduced Lee to singing the southern gospel all male quartet style. Lee's life hasn't been the same since. After his four years at college were over, Lee moved to North Carolina to pursue a career in gospel music.
Lee released his first solo recording, Southern Classics, in 2006. This album features some of those “good ole songs” and timeless hymns that Lee grew up listening to. Lee's second album, entitled Journey to the Cross, was released later the same year and features several songs written by Lee and his wife Cindy. This album also contains a duet in which Lee sings with one of his gospel music heroes, Danny Funderburk, formerly of the Cathedrals and the Singing Americans. Lee's latest album, Southern Classics Vol 2, is a perfect follow-up to his first album and contains ten more of Lee's favorite and most requested songs. Southern Classics Vol 2 was released in June 2008.
In 2007 Lee expanded his ministry and opened InSong Productions, a Christian recording studio located in Gastonia, North Carolina. The studio offers Lee the chance to help other artists in their ministries as well as allows Lee to use all of the talent and knowledge that God has given him. Lee has already had the opportunity to work with several well-known gospel music artists and is looking forward working with others in the future.
Lee currently resides in Gastonia, North Carolina with his wife Cindy, daughter Alina and son Troy. His son Scott is a senior at Troy University in Troy, Alabama and daughter Casey is a student at Gaston Community College in Dallas, North Carolina.
