Central Virginia's Lee Harris 3 - together since 2001. Monty and Lee go back to the High School marching band - Monty on drums and Lee on trumpet. That means Monty is cooler. Even though Lee was older, and when he graduated he got a job in a record store, Monty was still cooler - because he would come see him at work when he was skipping school. Lee was in a band back then with another guy in the drumline, Brad, who is now known as Jizmak the Gusher, drummer for GWAR. Lee also knows the drummers from Pavement, Fighting Gravity, Honor Role, Cyrus Chestnut, and Breadwinner. But is that relevant to our discussion here? No. Corey and Lee go back to the music department of a Borders bookstore. Lee asked Corey to write a Christmas song for a holiday CD he gives away every year, and Monty played drums on the song. At the time Lee & Monty were in a band called Chicken with Monty on bass. They were blown away by Corey's song and his bass playing, so Monty suggested they all start a band together. Wanting it to be different, he suggested Lee play piano, Corey play bass, and Monty would play drums. No guitars. They worked up 20 songs and started gigging around Richmond with Meanflower, Susan Greenbaum, Pent-Up House, Swoon, Ember Swift, and lots of others. Monty and Lee also moonlighted as the rhythm section in both Meanflower and The Hollywood Squares. Corey started a band he fronts called astrojunk, then funnelcake. Monty and Lee play on Corey's songs. Monty started the Ukulele Hipster Kings, enlisted Lee on bass, Hunter from Chicken on drums, and Corey on guitar. Monty sings and plays electric ukulele. If that isn't enough, Lee started a country band called Country Sunshine with ex-members of The Red Hot Lava Men and Metro Traffic's Jenny Jusell. In 2004 Lee financed the recording of their debut CD, The Buttons are There for Pushing at Kieran Wagner's Wide Open Sound studio. The CD is available at CD Baby, i-tunes, and all other digital download stores.
