The artist “Leeia Music” is a vocalist, songwriter and television host with a face to remember and a voice that’s hard to forget. Her interest in music developed at an early age and flourished while developing her craft in college. Her vocal style is a combination of R&B and the soulful beats of reggae. .
Leeia is a prolific songwriter with compositions ranging from soul ballads to hip-hop and reggae chants. She has appeared at numerous local and regional venues as well as in the Caribbean island of Jamaica, home of reggae music. Notable performances include popular festivals such as “Irie Jamboree '09” and “Reggae in Symphony” featuring artists such as Sean Paul, Freddie McGregor, Shaggy and T.O.K. She was the winning vocalist in the New York “Reggae Rising Stars" music competition (Ken Williams Show - radio station 93.5 WVIP) as well as the 7th Annual Reggae Jam Talent Search Contest in Long Island, New York (Dave Judah- radio station 93.5 WVIP.)
As an occasional television host for the cable program Style Masters TV, Leeia has interviewed Grammy award winner Freddie McGregor and actor Laman Rucker. She has also made cameo appearances in television productions such as VH1 series “The Salt and Pepa Show”, the “I Know” video, a release by Jay-Z and more recently, the movie “Beware The Gonzo” (starring Jesse McCartney, Amy Sedares, and Cambell Scott )
Leeia periodically produces her own “New Artist Showcase” featuring other emerging artists like herself. These shows present a lively and entertaining mix of artists differing in styles and musical genres. They are well-received, attracting fans who appreciate live music by talented performers.
Despite her busy schedule Leeia remains involved in community activities. She is volunteer musician with “Hearts and Voices”, an organization that brings live music to hospitalized HIV/AIDS patients. She occasionally performs at local events hosted by the Jamaica Consulate in New York and has also taught voice classes for youths at a neighborhood music program..
Leeia’s major goal in 2009 is to continue to attract new fans through her live appearances with her band. She will shortly be releasing a her debut single and video "Strong Black Woman" and is quite excited about this project. Her track “Ups and Downs” will be featured in the upcoming movie “Don’t Blame The Lettuce”- a relationship drama by writer/ director David Jones. (Jones media productions)
