The album "A week In May" and songs from it is now available at itunes.
Based in Hartlepool, Cleveland, The Lee Maddison Band play affecting acoustic music, which moves seamlessly between folk, blues and pop. A bit Damien Rice, a bit David Gray, Lee's music also bears comparison with many classic era troubadours, while still sounding utterly original. In fact, the man, with his gospel soaked voice and songwriting style is like a cross between Johnny Cash and Nick Drake, was so inspired in the early eighties by the Cat Stevens album 'Tea For The Tillerman' he went out and bought a guitar and learned the album in its entirety.
The whole point of folk music - surely, is that it tells you stuff about people's lives. Lee Maddison knows this, and as a result his debut album 'A Week In May' resonates with emotion, insight and humour. The gorgeous 'Tomorrow is such a long time' is full of hope and promise. 'The Way You Shine' is unashamedly romantic. 'Crying In The Wind' tells the true story of a tortured soul named Brian, while 'Night Circus' describes is an observational account of a Saturday night on the town. In fact all the songs resemble short stories. Birds (the feathered variety), lovers, mental health experiences and Vikings daughters all fall within Maddison's lyrical reach. It says a lot for this CD, that what impresses most is not the wonderfully warm and often sublime playing, but the excellence of the songs. An album of quiet grace, 'A Week In May' is impossible not to love. (G, Grundy, Zambra Promotions 2007)
The Lee Maddison Band's first album, 'A Week In May' is available at gigs or by clicking the paypal link below. It is also available through itunes and various other digital distributors. It was recorded at the washoose recording studio, Crawfordjohn, Lanarkshire and produced, engineered and mastered by Dr.Bone. It was recorded deliberately as a three piece ,(that is, "without tinsel") with just acoustic guitar, bass and drums, to give you an honest idea of what the band are about live. The band would like to thank Dr.Bone and family for their hospitality and a great "Washoose"recording experience.
You can always catch Lee Maddison playing on a Tuesday night at the Causeway, Hartlepool. It's a residency that he's held down for approx. 7 years.
