Eileen's Interests
|
| General | I am politically active in anti-war, labor, anti-globalization, reproductive rights, anti-nuclear, indigenous, environmental and civil rights issues. I’ve recently become a national delegate for the Green Party. I have worked with indigenous groups to resist government and Big Nuclear Energy efforts to locate nuclear facilities on indigenous land. I also work towards the abolition of nuclear weapons and the phase-out of nuclear power. In May 2006 I attended a demonstration against the proposed Divine Strake blast at the Nevada Test Site, and I was arrested for the first time. In a former life-career-path I was a costume designer, but my primary artistic pursuits now are collage and assemblage, mostly of trash items, making paper, writing poetry, brewing beer and wine, and making cheese. I have a website for my poetry and eventually my collage and sculptural work at http://www.beyondvertigo.org/ I am very spiritual, but anti-organized-religion.
Get this Action Button | | Music | Tracy Grammar, Indigo Girls, Ozomatli, Michael Franti, David Rovics, Billy Bragg, REM, traditional Irish and Scottish, CSN&Y and others with tight harmonies, film composers Thomas Newman, James Horner, John Barry, Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore. I’ll go to a movie, if all I know about it is that one of these composers did the music. I’ve discovered great music through community radio. | | Movies | You’ve Got Mail, Chocolat, Lord of the Rings, Meet Joe Black, A Walk on the Moon, The Englishman Who Went up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain, Brokeback Nountain, And the Band Played on, Out of Africa, Pride and Prejudice, 1776, The Oil Factor, The Saint (with Val Kilmer) This is What Democracy Looks Like, The Ground Truth, Iraq for Sale, Dr. Zhivago, Reds, Betty Boop shorts, anything with Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Johnny Depp or Viggo Mortensen. | | Television | I really don’t watch it. There are some good cartoons I like for my kids; SpongeBob Squarepants, Pepper Ann, The Avatar and I used to watch Emeril Lagasse on the Food Network with my son. I keep meaning to watch The Daily Show, and Bill Maher. I listen to Democracy Now! regularly on community radio.MASH reruns are good. | | Books | Poetry from everywhere -I often pick poetry books by closing my eyes and pointing to a place on the shelf, and then opening the book to a random spot. Shawn Dallas Stradley, Marge Piercy, Nikki Giovanni, Kildem Soto, Ethan William Higbee, Lewis, Rumi, Federico Garcia Lorca, Charles Bukowski, Pablo Neruda are favorites. Political books - Nancy Chang; Silencing Political Dissent, Peter Kornbluh; The Pinochet Files, Laton McCartney; Friends in High Places: The Bechtel Story. Eileen's Blurbs |
About me:
I’m re-visiting the single life after 13 years of marriage and 2 children. My children (daughter 13, son 10) are absolutely the most important people in my life. They are amazing, complex, creative beings. I involve them in my activist work, and they are great sign-holders and leafletters. They also give Bronx cheers (raspberries, nose-thumbs) whenever we pass Wal-Marts, Dummer dealerships or Coca-Cola signs, and remind me to look for union labels, and country of origin. We also have some joint art projects. We read together, cuddle together for movies, and take walks by the river. I have a pair of tattoos, one on each arm, of artwork my children did for me. As part of each of their birthday celebrations in 2006, we chose the design and went to a tattoo parlor to have it done. My daughter sat with me while her design was being done. She said to me:” Mom, I know I can’t get a tattoo until I’m eighteen. When I turn eighteen, will you draw something for me, so I can have it tattooed on me?” How cool is that?! I now have a third tattoo, a beautiful, multicolored flaming heart, with "Buddy Boo" in the center, in honor of my son's tenth birthday. Photos, soon!

Who I'd like to meet:
Strong women who hold their woman friends as precious as their lovers. Articulate, artistic men who appreciate Susan Sarandon and see the magic and wisdom in children. Anyone who believes that life is not over at 40, and who can still fume, rant, love, sing and play. I’m looking to build strong friendships and communities. I also believe in the magic of the moment.
