My influences are very broad, but most certainly include Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc, Rachmaninov, Pierre Bensusan, Ralph Towner, Tommy Emmanuel, John Fahey, Django Reinhardt, Paco De Lucia, Gerardo Nunez, Paulo Bellinati, Isaac Albeniz, Makam, Kolinda, Talisman, Balogh Kalman, Taraf De Haidouks, Kali Jag, Ion Petre Stoican, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Slint, King Crimson, Tool, Alice In Chains, Helmet, Meshuggah, Blind Melon, early Smashing Pumpkins, Guns n' Roses, Nirvana, Queen, Don Cabalero, Rumah Sakit, Bjork, James Orr Complex, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Nick Drake, Billy Holiday, Sonny Rollins, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, Wes Montgomery, John Coltrane, Art Tatum, Dave Brubeck, God Speed You Black Emperor, Steve Reich, Nick Bartch, Stefan Micus, Astor Piazzolla, music of the Gypsies from all around the world, dark cinema, lushious artwork, epic literature, science, philosophy, theology, the whole spectrum of human emotion and lifelong experience, the world and all it is surrounded by (sorry if i missed anything out).
Sounds Like"...one of the UK's most exciting and versatile musicians." - Keith Ames, MU "...an emerging acoustic instrumentalist with blazing technique, ensuring the fingerpicking tradition remains in safe hands." - Owen Bailey, Guitarist Magazine "...a brilliantly talented young artist, with a broad palette of styles mixed seamlessly together on this album...anyone with an appreciation for the fusion of ideas should love ‘To Sleep’.” – Sam Wise, Acoustic Magazine "...he'll be a name to know in the future if he keeps this up: remember you heard it here first!" - Guitar & Bass " A breath of fresh air, indispensable..." - J.V, Guitarra Total "Westwood is prodigiously talented and able to create musical landscapes that are abstract, yet always energetic." - Patrick Regains, Minor 7th "...an astonishing acoustic guitar talent, Lee Westwood presents his very own approach to music. Lee surely impresses as a guitar player and composer, as well as with his new album 'To Sleep'. Check him out!" - Henk de Veldhuis, Bridge Guitar Reviews "Thank goodness for Lee Westwood, whose 'To Sleep (Farewell Songs)' will have guitar players giving up in despair and the rest of us delighted. Very rarely is technical wizardry on an instrument used to say something that otherwise could not be said. Lee manages that and it's a pleasure to hear. One man, an acoustic and (apparently) four hundred thousand fingers." - Giles Duffy, Rocks Magazine

   About Lee Westwood
Born in January 1982, Lee Westwood is a composer and fingerstyle guitarist based in Brighton, UK. He writes music predominantly for solo guitar, but also for other instruments such as flute, cello and voice. His music draws influence from the worlds of Folk, Jazz and Classical, being very diverse, yet maintaining a sound particular to himself. Lee has toured extensively around the UK and Spain over the last 4 years, also appearing on countless radio shows, and has opened for artists such as Waterson Carthy, Tim Van Eyken, Pierre Bensusan, Nick Harper, Gavin Moore, Joe West and Julian Dawson. Lee's compositions were also performed by award-winning guitarist Gerard Mapstone in Tyalgum Classical Music Festival, Australia. On the release of his debut album 'To Sleep', Guitarist magazine published an interview with Lee Westwood (see Album Reviews Blog). Other articles include Guitar & Bass magazine, Guitarra Total, Acoustic magazine, Rocks magazine, and online review sites such as Minor 7th and Bridge Guitar Reviews. In 2006 Lee also appeared on Cuatrosfera, a Spanish national television program. 'To Sleep' (2006) is a solo guitar album featuring flute by Philippe Barnes, and artwork by Adam Oehlers (see top 24 friends). 'Nymph Suite & Other Stories (2008) is a departure from the first album, in that it explores Lee's ensemble works, and contains varying lineups for guitar, flute, violin, cello and double bass. The title suite is comprised of three pieces for flute and guitar, with accompanying artwork by Nom Kinnear King (see top 24 friends) and poetry by Goon. A new solo album is underway, and is due to be released by the summer of 2009. Expect more music for solo guitar, and even some singing. Keep watching this site for more details. Lee is available for performances, tuition and transcriptions. You can find music samples from this site or www.lee-westwood.com, both in audio format, and in notation/tablature. If it leaves you thirsty for more, pick up a copy of the new CD here (see BUY NOW button to left), or online at www.lee-westwood.com. All pieces are available in notation/tablature. Aside of the guitar, Lee also plays percussion, hammered dulcimer and flute.

Choonz entered in an Irish Music
Battle of the Bands!

Hi,
Choonz have entered an Irish music battle of the Bands competition online Youtube Link

The winners get 5 nights playing  at the Monte Carlo Casino in Las
Vegas. This would obviously be quite nice. Seriously though, we would
really love this opportunity and this would give us the publicity
needed to start our career as a touring band.

      WE NEED YOUR VOTE!! Please take the time to forward this to some people in your address book. Voting ends in a few days so please don't delay. It only takes a minute to register your vote!
Anyway, enough grovelling from us. To vote for us

David Franks: Walkabouts Verse

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001

Where traditions are not so rare;
    Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
    Planted tubs and patterned pavements.

The longish pedestrian malls;
    The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
    Of the respect for heritage.

Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
    Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
    Romantic-ruin go-betweens.

Rivers in parts licked by trees,
    Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
    Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.

Fine churches headed at Durham;
    Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
    Masonry behind masonry.

And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

TWILIGHT FOLK PRESENTS….
SHARRON KRAUS
With support from Peter Delaney and C Joynes
Live at Orange Street Music Club,
Canterbury
Weds October the 21st 8.00pm
£5 in advance/£6 on door

“Sharron Kraus is a dark-folk gem. Listening to her high, clear voice cut through melodies woven from acoustic guitar, banjo and hurdy-gurdy, you may struggle to remember which late-'60s traditionalists beat her to the material.Here's one folklore expert whose originals feel both authentic and alive….Exquisite second album by this wonderful singer. She conjures up visions of Karen Dalton, Shirley Collins, Judy Dyble and even early Joni. Live she was fantastic too. ..this moves from traditional folk (in a Shirley Collins, Anne Briggs style) to her own songs and enchants all the way. An immaculate album from a major new singer.”

Peter Delaney lives in Limerick, Ireland. He comes from a folk music background and plays his own unique style, drawing on early Hawaiian folk songs and Alan Lomax field recordings as well as more contemporary musicians such as Joanna Newsom and Josephine Foster. Peter released his debut EP/Mini Album "Duck Egg Blue" in April 2007 to much acclaim.

Peter has played throughout the UK, Ireland and Norway and has shared the bill with A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Alasdair Roberts, Jozef van Wissem, Juana Molina and The Swell Season.

CIRCULUS
Circulus in woods

‘British band Circulus have almost single handedly reinvented English Psychedelic Folk Rock for the 21st Century…..their sound is totally unique coming across like a mixture of medieval English Folk, Fairport Convention and Ozric Tentacles!
‘This band just leave you wanting more, playing a wonderful mix of psychedelicised folk whilst hankering to a more pastoral time, but always feel uncomfortably bang up to date. The songs are a fantastic mix of heady summer jigs & ballads, sung with a crystal clear Englishness that can make you come over all unnecessary. This is prog/folk spot on in every way, and probably the only band around who use a Crumhorn, Cittern & Rausch pfiffer????......the audience is sent home happy. Seeking medieval inspiration is not in itself new – Gryphon and Amazing Blondel spring to mind – but Circulus marry this with vintage 70’s space-rock a la Hawkwind/Gong’.
Power to the Pixies!
